1. India celebrates ‘World Green Building Week 2011’ from
September 19 – 23, 2011
World Green Building Week initiated by the World Green Building Council, is celebrated
annually to draw attention to the importance of creating healthier, more sustainable buildings
and communities. Each year during the third week of September, Green Building Councils
and their members mark this occasion with events and activities that reflect the diversity of
their cultures and industries. This year, World Green Building Week 2011 was celebrated
during September 19-23, 2011.
Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a founding member of the World Green Building
Council, spearheads the green building movement in India since 2001. As on date, IGBC has
facilitated 905 million sq. ft of green building footprint, with 1,289 green building projects
throughout the country. As on date, India has over 198 green building projects, which are
certified and fully functional.
To start with, a poster (appended below) highlighting the significance of the event, and Green
Building Movement in India so far, designed by IGBC was reached out to all the stakeholders,
through emails, posters, hoardings, etc.

Subsequently, various activities spreading the awareness of green buildings were initiated by
different teams throughout the nation which are highlighted in this report.
2. Celebrations at CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, Hyderabad, The first
‘Platinum’ Rated Green Building in India

3. IGBC Kolkata Chapter Programme
IGBC Kolkata chapter organized a one-day conference on green buildings. Dr Prem C Jain,
Chairman, Indian Green Building Council & Mr Sanjay Wadhwani, Hon'ble British Deputy
High Commissioner were among the eminent speakers.

4. Ranbaxy warehouse, Madhya Pradesh – IGBC Factory Building registered project
Ranbaxy Dewas site (which is currently in process of implementing guidelines in
accordance to IGBC Green factory Rating system) , in association with the project green
building consultant- EDS conducted multiple activities to promote the belief and understanding
and education of green buildings among people involved in the project and Ranbaxy community.

towards creating environmentally responsive and sustainable development.
5. Celebrations in Pune, by Vascon Engineers, Ltd.
Vascon Engineers Pune organized a one-day special programme at Windmere project site in
Pune on 22 September 2011 which involved an ‘Environment awareness training for
workers, Environment quiz for staff, a Presentation for Environment awareness, and
awards to the stand-out performers.

6. Saint - Gobain Glass & IGBC present – “Ideas in Glass”
IGBC & Saint Gobain Glass jointly organized the “!deas in Glass” contest on
www.facebook.com , which received tremendous response from the ‘socially active’
youth of the nation
7. IGBC Bangalore Chapter celebrations
IGBC - Bangalore chapter organized a Felicitation Programme on 21st September 2011 to
honor people from different walks of life, who have accomplished a remarkable work in “Go
Green” movement. Former Lokayukta, Justice N Santosh Hegde was the Chief Guest at the
function among other dignitaries including Environmentalist and Filmmaker Mr Suresh Heblikar.

8. IGBC Kochi chapter celebrations
The IGBC Kochi chapter programme, lead by chapter chairman Ar B R Ajit, attracted the
‘Presidents’ of Society of Residents from Kochi. A special awareness programme, and
elocution competition was also organized for school children

9. Mangalore: Bearys Institute of Technology celebrates 'World Green Building
Week'
In Mangalore, World Green Building Week' was celebrated at Bearys Institute of Technology
(BIT), Knowledge Campus, which itself is unique sustainable green architecture campusa ‘green’
campus. BIT ‘Green club’ organized a unique programme of its kind 'BIT Green Day' where the
students of BIT planted saplings in the campus. Vinod Aranha, Manager, Technical
Development US Green Building Council, Washington DC threw light on the benefits of
sustainable and green architecture.

10. International Conference on Green Buildings, French Embassy, New Delhi
IGBC was a part of the Indo-French technology meet on Green building, New Delhi, from 22 -
25 September 2011 at the French Embassy in New Delhi. A presentation on Green Building
Movement in India, various activities of IGBC & its rating programmes was made, which received
quite a good response from the attendees.
