1. ANIMAL RIGHTS &
CRUELTY
AWARENESS
By Marissa, Ethan, and Ally
ENGL 111-354
2. Too often, innocent animals are
abused…
ANIMAL CRUELTY:
Abuse, in any regard, of a
non-human animal,
except when attempting
to end the pain of an
incurable, suffering
animal, or for survival
purposes.
Including, but not limited
to:
Physical abuse;
malicious intent to
harm
Starvation/dehydration
Failure to seek
veterinary care
Inadequate shelter
Because laws vary from state to state, we
lack a legal definition of this term.
Nevertheless, many explanations often
have major key similarities.
3. Humans gain materialistic things,
while animals lose their lives…

4. Just a few examples…
(NOT FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED)
Sea World’s cruelty to animals has recently been exposed by the
USDA. Their animals are captured out of their natural habitats,
taken from their families, and kept in small enclosures, in unsafe
conditions (Sea World).
Walmart has also recently been exposed by the group Mercy for
Animals, for the cruelty of pigs. They are kept in small gestation
crates, barely large enough for the animal to stand in. The tails and
testes are also removed from piglets, with a pair of dull clippers,
with no pain medication or anesthesia administered (The Hidden
Cost).
KFC has been under investigation for their cruelty to chicken,
cramming them into small, waste-filled factories, which smell
strongly of ammonia. At slaughter, the chickens’ throats are cut and
they are dropped into scolding hot water, most of the time still
conscious (PETA).
6. If you should suspect abuse…
OBSERVE the
animals’
conditions.
PAY ATTENTION
to the animals’
environment.
INTERACT with
the animal to
observe
behaviors.
Is the animal
filthy?
Malnourished?
Loss of fur?
Plenty of space?
Food and water?
Overpopulated?
Is the animal timid or
aggressive when
approached by humans or
other animals?
7. Do something about it!
Report animal abuse to your local law
enforcement or animal shelter.
Donate to your local animal shelter.
Create fundraisers, donating the profits to local
adoption agencies.
Raise awareness. Educate your peers about
the signs of animal cruelty.
Support vegan companies.
Consider adhering to a vegetarian or vegan
lifestyle.
Stand up against deforestation.
Adopt an animal in need or promote adoption.
Inform peers about how littering affects our
animals.
Educate your children about proper respect,
handling, and care of animals.
Become an advocate for those who don’t have
a voice of their own. Speak up against animal
cruelty and defend our wildlife.
