March 2014

  1. 1. Our Saviour Lutheran Preschool 120 South Henry Street, Green Bay, Wisconsin 54302 Director: Christina L. Scholz School 920-468-3596 March 2014 Dear Friends, Our “integrity” word of the month is Empathy. Our Bible verse is: “Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.” 1 Peter 3:8 Throughout this Lenten season we will be emphasizing God's love for us in sending Jesus. We want the children to know Jesus as someone who really loves them and helps them love others as well as being our Saviour. We will discuss the importance of REPENTANCE and talk to the children about how God calls us to “REPENT” which means to turn away from the bad things we do and change our behavior. “Stop, turn around and do the right thing.” Lent is not about trying to feel what Jesus felt. It is about pondering the innocent suffering and death of the Son of God. It is about recognizing and confessing our unworthiness in Gods’ presence. It is about thanking Him for His unparalleled and underserved love with the prayer that we would live a life of discipleship through the power of His Spirit. Ash Wednesday is March 5th with service that night at 7:00; if you do not have a church home please join us for services here each Wednesday through lent at 4:00 or 6:30 pm. or if your church doesn’t offer a Lenten Service, we would be delighted to share this wonderful message with you. TUITION DUE The fourth and final quarterly tuition payment is due on or before March 15th for the T-TH and MWF classes. Please turn in those dollars as close to the 15th as possible. If you are on a monthly plan we thank you for getting those in each month by the 15th. We have been blessed by you and your children this year. We want to thank you for sending your child here, we know you have other options and we are so grateful that you have lent them to us for their preschool experience. 4. 4. Pre-K Tidbits Would you like your 3, 4 or 5 year old to be a little more independent? Have a little more responsibility? Try a few of these age appropriate chores for your toddler. It’s March and still to cold to play outside. Make your own snow. ~ Pick up toys and books and put them in their proper place (first assign clear places for your child's things) ~ Put dirty clothes in the hamper (try after bath, in the morning, and before bed) ~ Wipe the table after snack and dinner- not only is this an easy task for toddlers but they usually enjoy helping! ~ Dusting- make it fun! I purchased a bath hand puppet at The Dollar Tree for Gabe to use when dusting. ~ Unload the groceries- after a grocery trip I let Gabe hand me items out of the grocery bags. As he hands them to me I put them away. This keeps him busy and saves me from bending over (Hey, I'm not as young as I used to be) ~ Help set the table- While I set out the plates and glassware I give Gabe the forks and napkins. He loves helping me set the table. ~ Let them help you make the bed- do this chore together and squeeze in a little bonding while you work. ~ Wipe cabinet fronts- For this "chore" I give Rosie a bucket of soapy water and a rag. ~ Put dishes in the sink after meals- They are expected to do this in preschool anyway. ~ Water plants- for this chore I fill a measuring cup with the appropriate amount of water for each plant and then Gabe enjoys pouring it into the pot and feeding the plant. To make your own Snow: It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! ~Mark Twain It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. ~Charles Dickens, Great Expectations Add the desired amount of baking soda to a sensory bin or container. Then, slowly mix in shaving cream. I used one large box of baking soda and almost a full can of shaving cream. As you slowly mix in the shaving cream you will discover a fantastic mold-able snow. The snow is super soft, silky smooth, and smells so clean and fresh. It is also naturally cold. I am not sure why exactly but it is! It feels just like fresh fallen powder in your hands. Song of Solomon 2:11-12 For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.”
