for thoracic radiosurgery payment
• In 2013, the American Medical Association’s (AMA) annual
updates included a new CPT code for Stereotactic Radiosurgery
(SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) treatment
planning for thoracic lesions.
• CPT code 32701 is available for pulmonologists, thoracic and
general surgeons to bill for their participation and collaboration
with our center’s radiation oncologists in their patients’ CyberKnife®
treatment plans.
• There is no global service period for CPT 32701. In addition to
target delineation, physiciansmayalsobillforotherservices, which
could include consultations, fiducial placement and follow-up care.
• Prior to release of this code, reimbursement to thoracic surgeons’
and other physicians’ participation in the CyberKnife treatment
planning process washighlyvariable.Thedecisiontocreateacodefor
physician collaboration emphasizes and supports a multidisciplinary
approach to providing quality patient care.
