3. As we know sweat comes from the sweat
glands, but what are they?
Sweat glands are tubular glands present almost
everywhere in our body. We have two types of
sweat glands- Eccrine and Apocrine.

ECCRINE GLANDS
APOCRINE GLANDS
They are found in our
underarms.
They are larger in size.
They are associated with the
hair follicles & open at the hair
follicles.
They produce a thick fluid,
which in contact with bacteria
on the skinโs surface, produces
a characteristic potent "body
odor".

everywhere on our body.
They are smaller in size.
They are not associated with
anything and have an
independent opening.
They secrete a clear fluid which
is odorless.

Sweating is one of the ways we regulate our body temperatureโ
humans rely on the evaporation of sweat to protect the body
against the hot environment.
Sweat helps to keep our skin
moist.

Sweat contains a natural antibiotic, dermicidin, that helps
to destroy bacteria on the skin.
Sweating of the body and hands when we are
anxious may occur for a reason โ to help us
escape from enemies if they try to grab us!
