SELICHOT SERVICES
We begin saying Selichot on Motzei Shabbat,
September 20th. Currently, (besides for the first
night) we hold Selichot each night following a
9:30 PM Maariv and before the 8:00 AM Minyan.
In the past. we have received requests to consider
a third selichot prior to the 6:30 AM Minyan. This
Selichot Minyan would begin between 5:50 and
6:00 AM as it must be completed BEFORE the
early minyan commences. Rather than wait until
the last minute, we ask that if you are interested in
such a minyan, kindly email to gabbai@yieb.org
and indicate such....ALSO INCLUDE IF YOU
CURRENTLY ATTEND ANY OF THE OTHER SELICHOT
MINYANIM AS WE WISH TO MAINTAIN THEM AS
WELL. Thank you for your timely reply.

SUCCAH FUNDRAISER
Dear YIEB,
I am fundraising to provide our Shul with a
beautiful new succah that is large enough to
accommodate a congregation of our size. It is my
hope that we will use this succah for kiddushim,
youth and community events, and for those in our
community who do not have a succah of their own.
I am doing this in memory of my grandparents and
in honor of my upcoming bar mitzvah. Please
respond as generously as you can afford to. The
donation can be made through the shul website
(cloud) where you can process your tax-deductible
donation. Use the Succah or general option on the
donation page. Thank you in advance and I look
forward to celebrating Succos together in our new
succah this year.
Sincerely,
David Wolkoff

4. ~Young Israel of East Brunswick Israel Advocacy Committee~
~Emergency Action Appeal~
July 10, 2014
Dear YIEB Members,
Israel has never known a moment’s peace in its history- its civilians are being bombarded again with terrorist
missiles launched from Gaza. As Israel responds to current terrorist groups’ missile attacks, our hearts are with
our brothers and sisters in harm’s way. Here’s how we in East Brunswick can support Israel and its people:
• Yashar Lachayal’s Ari & Sari Horowitz Memorial Fund - Targeted, Direct Tzedakah: Donate by direct link to
the Fund at https://www.yasharlachayal.org/campaigns/the-ari-sari-horowitz-memorial-fund/ . This Fund is named
in memory of our dear friends and YIEB members, Sari & Ari Horowitz z”l, who had a special place in their hearts
for helping to ease the burden of the brave IDF soldiers. YIEB has developed a special relationship with Yashar
Lachayal, whose mission is to “bring soldiers in the IDF what they need, when they need it”. The organization
provides for basic needs of the Chayalim who are defending Israel with their own lives. Due to Yashar Lachayal’s
founders’ generosity, 100% of donations are used to purchase & distribute these greatly needed supplies, rather
than being used to defray administrative overhead costs.
The Fund was established last summer specifically to provide food, clothing, and other necessities to needy IDF
soldiers who come from impoverished family circumstances. The Fund will now focus its aid for the soldiers on
their most immediate needs due to current combat conditions. Please donate online in Ari & Sari’s memory so
brave IDF soldiers may receive the benefit of your donation without delay while they protect Israel.
• Political Action: Contact your US Congressional Representatives and Senators and urge them to stand with
Israel by making a public statement of support for Operation Protective Edge and Israel’s right to defend itself.
Go to the OU’s action page at: http://advocacy.ou.org/action-alerts/# .
• Prayer for the IDF: Recite the Tefilah for the Members of the Israel Defense Forces
http://www.ou.org/life/israel/idf-prayer-card/ (text in both Hebrew & English).
• Recite Tehillim: http://tehilimyahad.com/mr.jsp?r=RskbNi5DP8 (Worldwide continuous) or http://www.mechon-
mamre.org/p/pt/pt2601.htm (text in both Hebrew & English).
• Pair with a Combat Soldier: Let us devote ourselves to Torah learning, Tefillah, and performance of Mitzvot
and good deeds in the soldiers’ merit. Sign up, free, at http://shmiraproject.com to pair with an active-duty IDF
combat soldier. Help unify and connect all of Am Yisrael and increase each soldier’s spiritual merit and protection.
• Hasbara: Spread truth about terrorist groups’ aggression against Israel. Share facts concerning the situation in
Israel with friends & colleagues to combat the prevalent misinformation in the media. Excellent websites include:
http://www.hasbarafellowships.org ; http://unitedwithisrael.org ; http://www.camera.org .
May Hashem protect Israel, her soldiers, and citizens during this difficult, dangerous round of Arab attacks and
defensive Israeli actions. Let us stand united & provide much needed support to our Israeli family.
Sincerely,
Judy Goldrich & Cheryl Shmulewitz Rabbi Jay Weinstein
