18. DAY-2
(Visiting BNS ANUSHANDHAN)
BNS Anushandhan is a survey vessel of
the Bangladesh Navy.
She previously served with the Royal Navy as the
coastal survey vessel HMS Roebuck (H130) from 3
October 1986 to 15 April 2010
In 2010, she was sold to the Bangladesh Navy.
She was handed over to the Bangladesh Navy on
28 May 2010. On 1 June 2010 she sailed
for Bangladesh. She is the first
dedicated hydrographic survey ship to serve with
Bangladesh Navy.
19. General characteristics of BNS ANUSHANDHAN
Displacement 1,477 tonnes
Length 64.01 m (210.0 ft)
Beam 13.03 m (42.7 ft)
Draught 4 m (13 ft)
Depth 6.13 m (20.1 ft)
Speed 15 knots (28 km/h; 17 mph)
Complement 52
20. MISSION
To maintain the marine environment and
navigability of the rivers
Delimitate the maritime boundary and preserve the
coastal area by collecting the necessary
information and statistical data
She will also play a significant role in research
activities and extraction of marine resources.
She can also act as a support ship for mine
warfare vessels.
22. First, we learned about the University of
Chittagong's FACULTY OF MARINE SCIENCE.
They give us an overview of their division.
We heard from the dean of the marine science
faculty, and the chairman presented
information on the faculty.
Some of senior students of DEPARTMENT OF
OCEANOGRAPHY gave us some speech about
their lab experiments and lab facilities.
23. LAB VISIT
Here, we went to the University of Chittagong's brand-new lab for the
Department of Oceanography.
24. WHAT DID WE LEARN FROM OUR FIELD TRIP
The tour was quite educational. This tour
taught us a lot of new things. Many new
things were learned from day one to day
four. This will be very beneficial for next
studies.Particularly obtained samples from a
ship at the BOB's mouth are highly beneficial.
Additionally, going to the BNHOC was really
educational. Here, we learned some crucial
details about the tidal characteristic of BOB
and surrounding area. The instructors in our
BN Hydrography class were really
knowledgable. And on the final day, the CU
Oceanography Department exposed us to
various instruments, which was a wonderful
experience. Finally, it can be noted that as a
student studying oceanography, a trip of this
nature is crucial for enhancing our practical
as well as innervational and Observing
knowledge.
