2. Margarita and the chocolate
Once upon a time there was a girl named Margarita, who liked chocolate. She
loved it! Every time she saw it, she had to eat it.
Her parents used to tell all the time her that she had to brush her teeth; they
knew Margarita didn’t like brushing her teeth but that she loved chocolate.
After breakfast, Mum used to say:
- Margarita! Have you brushed your teeth? –And Margarita would brush them.
After lunch:
- Margarita! Have you brushed your teeth? –And Margarita would brush them.
After dinner:
- Margarita! Have you brushed your teeth? –And Margarita would brush them.
And after eating chocolate, her father always used to say:
- Margarita! Have you brushed your teeth? –And Margarita would brush them.
- What a pain! –she said- I have to brush my teeth again! I’m going to wear
them out! I’m not brushing them anymore! I´m tired of you telling me to brush my
teeth all the time! Besides, one of the teeth is moving and it’s going to fall, I don’t
care!
Then, the parents decided not to tell Margarita to brush her teeth. And Margarita
didn’t.
She finished her breakfast and went to school … without brushing her teeth!
She had made it! But when she arrived to school, her friends saw her dirty teeth and
didn’t want to get close to her.
- I don’t care –she thought- I will play by myself, but I refuse to brush my teeth.
I’m sick of it!
After lunch, Margarita didn’t brush her teeth either; she returned to school and
her friends saw pieces of spinach, meat and chocolate between her teeth. It was
disgusting! Hadn’t she noticed it? But Margarita was happy, Finally, she didn’t have
to brush her teeth!
That night, though, after eating the pizza Dad had made, she bit a piece of
chocolate and… a tooth fell off.
- Cool! –she thought- the Ratoncito Pérez is coming tonight!
3. Margarita went to bed, with the chocolate, pizza and meat from lunch between
her teeth. But she was happy: she hadn’t brushed her teeth.
Next morning, when Margarita got up, she looked under her pillow to see what
the Tooth Fairy had left in Exchange for her tooth.
She was very nervous because she expected a piece of the chocolate she loved so
much, but, instead she found a toothbrush and a note from the Ratoncito Pérez:
Dear Margarita,
I didn’t get your tooth because it was very dirty and wouldn’t touch it. Because is the first one you
have lost, I’m giving you a toothbrush to clean not only this one but all the others. I will be back
tomorrow night and hope I will take it with me..
Best regards,
The Ratoncito Pérez
Margarita was in such a shock that she didn’t know what to do. How was she
going to tell her parents that the Ratoncito Pérez didn’t want her tooth? How was
she going to tell them that even the Ratoncito Pérz had asked her to brush her teeth?
Margarita rushed to the bathroom with her new toothbrush and brushed her
teeth thoroughly and then the tooth that the Ratoncito Pérez didn’t want, until it
was shiny.
When the parents got up, they saw Margarita’s shiny teeth and were very happy. She
told them what had happened and promised that they would never have to remind
her to brush her teeth.
That evening, Margarita left her tooth under the pillow with a note:
“Thanks for coming again. From now on, my teeth will be the shiniest and strongest
of your collection. Kiss Margarita”
Next morning, Margarita found that the Ratoncito Pérez had taken her tooth
and had left in Exchange a piece of the chocolate she adored. The Ratoncito Pérez
knew that, even if Margarita would eat it in one go, she would brush her teeth
afterwards.
