Discussion was held on do we encourage the individual churches to register on their own or all register under
the district NYI. Problem that has occurred is country of focus. World Vision originally confirmed that our
funds were heading to Haiti. Then there was a problem with getting the NCO NYI donation website up and
running because of some type of technical problem between NCM and World vision. At this point World
vision indicated that because we were Nazarene our funds are automatically designated for Malawi. Then NCM
indicated that yes that is an option but not mandatory we could designate our funds to go to the World Vision
Haiti. We just needed to realize that if we do there would be no NCM connection. World vision however
hasn’t confirmed that this is true on their end.
So Stephen is going to communicate to the youth pastors/leaders that all funds collected by the youth of the
individual churches will be handled by the individual churches. They may choose where to send their funds
either my register online with World Vision and allowing their funds to head to Malawi, or having their church
treasurer send the funds to either the NCM Haiti Water Project or Haiti Earthquake Relief through our
Nazarene Global Treasury or online at www.ncm.org. The focus of the NCO NYI 30 hour famine though will
be Haiti and Cleveland.
A short discussion was held about advertising at the upcoming talent/sport
BLAST at Wooster. Kathy Greenich volunteered set up a table and to help
distribute the additional 150 student kits World vision has sent us. Stephen
will make sure there is a table available for Kathy.
Convention
Speaker Rev. Monty Cyr :
3. Caribbean Youth Ministries Coordinator since 2006—Monte Cyr serves with his wife Bethany as Global
Missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene on the Caribbean Region, specifically in the area of youth
ministries. They currently live in Miami, Florida, where Monte serves out of the Regional Office as the
Regional Youth Ministries Coordinator since July 2006. Before coming to the Caribbean, Monte served in the
same role on the Africa Region from October 1998 until July 2006.
Besides serving on the Regional level, Monte has been active in the Global NYI leadership and Global NYI
Council since 2001. He has just finished serving as the Global NYI President from 2005-2009, during which he
travelled world-wide ministering to and with youth and leaders.
Monte graduated from Northwest Nazarene University with a B.A. in Religion in 1986. He received his Master
of Divinity Degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri in 1990. Monte was a full
time Youth Pastor from 1990 until their Missionary appointment in 1998 at Kansas City First Church and Boise
First Church of the Nazarene.
Monte shares that God has called his family to invest their time, energies, and lives into the youth and youth
leaders of the Caribbean. He has a passion for leadership development, and loves investing his life into the lives
of young leaders.
Monte and Bethany have four children: Robb (18), Amy (16), Bryan (14), and Nkele (9). His hobbies include
spending time with his family, scuba diving, playing basketball, maintaining a salt-water aquarium in his home,
and learning to play the guitar.
Still needed:
Worship? Stephen suggested not using impact since leadership will be changing and they may not be ready at
that point yet to perform. Kathy suggested the Sandusky Youth Worship team, someone else suggested
highlighting youth talent from BLAST. Any other ideas—send to Kathy!
Short discussion on how to do ballots and the consensus that we could do it before the convention at table like
the youth did for their ballots last year and like we all do when voting in our representative churches. WE DO
NEED NAMES for TELLERS, GREETERS, BALLOT workers. Send ideas to Kathy.
WE ALSO NEED NAME for POTENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR THE BALLOT. Send ideas to Kathy so she
has them for the May executive council meeting.
Do we have 2 offerings or only 1 offering? Any preference.
Discussed the time of the convention. Magic Mountain is still scheduled the night before. Can we have a
brunch? Probably not, interferes with Pioneer. How about 10 to 12 and then again 1-3. No food if we do this
time. Stephen and Kathy will run the ideas by the Assembly/Convention Planning team and get back to us.
Sun Valley will have an exhibition table.
