2. The Definition of CORE
• 1 : a central and often foundational part; usually distinct
from the enveloping part by a difference in nature <core
of the city> <core of the apple>
• 2 a : a basic, essential, or enduring part <the staff had a
core of experts> <the core of her beliefs> b : the
essential meaning <the core of the argument> c : the
inmost or most intimate part <honest to the core>
• 3 a : a California-based 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to
creating children's books geared for kids between the
ages of 4 and 10. These books are designed to both
teach and entertain all children; however, the topics will
focus on sending a message of hope in the face of
certain childhood adversities (see Core Topics). The
ultimate goal is to provide these children with a positive
outlook on their future.
3. The CORE Mission
• The CORE Campaign is a California-based 501(c)(3)
non-profit dedicated to providing many solutions
including but not limited to :
– Educating children through child/parent interaction
– Providing meaningful information to teach children
about the things that affect them today and in the
future
– Assisting parents in explaining difficult topics to
children
– Creating a library of books, and other educational
resources of superior quality and significance.
4. The CORE Concept
• CORE creates books that are designed to both teach and
entertain children about life by sending a message of
hope in the face of certain adversities that affect children.
• CORE partners with other non-profits to deliver these
specific messages through children’s picture books.
• CORE shares the net profit from the sale of these books
with our non-profit partners.
• Topics are limitless. They could include issues of loss
due to natural or manmade disasters, a death in the
family, sickness, handicaps, etc.
• Non-profit partners could include any small- or mid-sized
non-profit who membership base could support at least
1,000 books being sold.
5. CORE Sustainability
• At this time CORE is in its capacity building phase. We
have sourced several key non-profit partners, have
identified several professionals that we would like to hire,
and have chosen topics that we would like to address.
• CORE is seeking donors to fund the start of this much
needed organization. Your investment will immediately
be used to bring on two key professionals which will allow
CORE to begin the publishing our first book.
• Our estimate is that CORE needs to publish at least 10
books* in order to obtain financial sustainability of its
efforts. Your investment will help us reach our goal.
• 10 books at $10 profit per book at 10,000 units per book equals $1,000,000 operating budget for the following year.
6. CORE Success
• CORE defines success by solving four problems:
– First, we provide needed materials that parents can
use to explain very difficult situations to their children.
– Second, we help our non-profit partners raise
operating capital by selling these books to their
members. Our success is our partners success.
– Third, by building a library of titles, CORE can
become a self-sustaining organization thus avoiding
the fund raising trap.
– Fourth, CORE intends to develop the organization
into a well know name brand of high quality children's
books.
7. CORE Initiatives
• By December 2005, CORE will hire its first employee.
• By January 2005, CORE will secure office space.
