2. The Principle of the anointing oil (Exodus 30:22-33)
• Myrrh – Myrrh was bitter to the taste but had a fragrant odor, speaking
of SUFFERING and the resulting ANOINTED LIFE AND MINISTRY
• Cinnamon – This spice comes from a small evergreen (constant life)
tree that has flowers with a disagreeable odor, yet the spice will
improve the flavor of BITTER substance (sweetness in suffering)
• Calamus – This aromatic reed scents the air WHILE GROWING. When cut
down, dried, and powdered, it was used as an ingredient in the
RICHEST perfumes (the FRAGRANCE of Christ in the believer through
times of crushing – Ps. 68:30)
• Cassia – This plant has PURPLE (royalty) flowers and lives at a very
HIGH (heavenly) altitude. HUMILITY enabled by the rich anointing
brings PROMOTION (prov. 15:33). This spice was also used as incense
(WORSHIP) and to scent garments. Christ’s REGAL character manifested
in us as KINGS unto God.
(Rev. 1:6)
3. DAVID WAS ANOINTED THREE TIMES
• As exalted son –
1 Sam 16:13 – “Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed
him in the midst of his brother; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon
David from that day forward.”
• As Head –
2 Sam 2:4 – “Then the men of Judah came and there they
anointed David king over the house of Judah.”
• King over all –
2 Sam 5:3 – “Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the
king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron
before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel.”
4. JESUS CHRIST IS PROPHET, KING AND PRIEST – “THE LORD’S
ANOINTED”
Gal 4:6 – “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of
His Son into your hearts, crying out, ABBA FATHER”.
The “Anointed One” within the believer is a prophet declaring God
unto men, a priest bringing men unto God, and a king ruling in God’s
name.
Rev 5:10 – “And have made us kings and priests to our God; and we
shall reign on the earth.”
1 John 2:27 – “But the anointing which you have received from Him
abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the
same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is
not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.”
5. CORPORATE ANOINTING
Romans 12: 3-8 , NKJ
“For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone
who is among you, not to think of himself more highly
than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God
dealt to each one a measure of faith. For as we have
many members in one body, but all the members do
not have the same function, so we, being many, are
one body in Christ, and individually members of one
another. Having then gifts differing according to the
grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy,
let us prophecy in proportion to our faith; or ministry,
let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in
teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who
gives, with liberty; he who leads, with diligence; he
who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.”
