2. COMMUNITY
● com·mu·ni·ty
● /kəˈmyoonitē/
͞
● Noun
● A group of people living together in one place,
esp. one practicing common ownership: "a
community of nuns".
● All the people living in a particular area or
place: "local communities".
3. …
● The modern age has developed into a time of
technology and alternative methods of
communication and it is now very rare that you
find a tightly bound community that rely and
depend on each other within the community for
business, support, friendship and trade.
● Chelsea Road still obtains that sense of
community with no major chain stores, all
independently run local businesses.
4. BATH BAKERY
● MOTTO: “A great place to work - great people
to work with”
● Mark Slevin, Managing Director quotes: “We
have been hand-crafting bread in Bath for
decades and continuously add to our wide
range of products – there is always something
new in our shops! We are proud of our
commitment to source raw materials as locally
as possible.”
5. ● The Bakery believes it is important to be local,
think local and buy local! They quote “We are
your local bakery, providing a unique range of
high quality products in our shops and to a wide
range of commercial customers.”
6. MY PITCH:
● Run a parallel fictional narrative/ non-fictional
documentary
7. Biblical theme: The good samaritan
Obviously Chelsea Road is a small community – But
bread is the staple food and the bakery feeds the
community. The generosity of the bakery means that
after the end of the day, they leave their bread outside
and people can make donations through the letterbox. I
would like to do a short film on the difference this makes
to the life of somebody who lives on the streets and see if
the donations benefit them at all. I would like to link this
with the story of “The good samaritan” and the fact that
what goes around comes around. The bread that helps
the homeless man get up onto his feet then in later life
makes him a loyal customer to the bakery and use it
daily.
8. Character Build-up
The main character in my story will the the
bakery's most regular customer, he comes
in every day chats to the owners and has
lots of stories. He will be a well-known, loved
member of the community. Throughout the
narrative it will flash back ten years to when
he was homeless and living on the streets.
Surprise investment when the bakery is
struggling.
9. How I took inspiration for my piece
from the short films I found..
Teeth – humorous approach and black and white
to highlight the message of the movie
Black and white
Music - composed soundtrack by myself changing
from major to minor tonality back to major. A
blend of diegetic and non-diegetic sound
Memories- flash backs into the past & sense of a
leading character, following his journey.
10. Establishing shots
Shots of the road sign, location, weather,Time
lapse of a day at the bakery, different positions,
people going in and out visual shots of bakery
closing, lights switching off, blinds closing, bread
being put out. Shots of regular customer, shot of
clock going backward.. ie going back in time.
Doesn't focus on face of the homeless man until
the end so you don't make the connection until
the end with a close up shot.
11. Location
● Chelsea Rd Bakery is located in the middle of
the street
● The pavements
are fairly narrow
so filming in the
streets could
prove tricky
