The document describes a proposed mobile app called Grains that aims to help reduce food waste. The app would allow users to track their daily food waste and spread awareness about the issue. It would have features like sharing recipes using leftovers, discussing steps to reduce waste, and learning facts about food waste. The design of the app emphasizes clean interfaces, bright colors, and easy navigation to encourage use. Restaurants could also participate by tracking waste and educating customers using table stands and stickers provided by Grains. The overall goal is to slowly reduce food waste by increasing awareness of individual habits and encouraging broader change.

Roughly one third of
the food produced in the world
for human consumption every
year — approximately 1.3 billion
tonnes — gets lost or
wasted. Food losses
and waste amounts to roughly
US$ 680 billion in industrialized
countries and US$ 310 billion in
developing countries.
Grains was a mobile app aimed
to help people track their food
waste, spread awareness about
the issue to slowly bringing it
down.

3. Clean Design
Less text, more white space. The
design aims at placing least number
of elements on the screen.
Bright colours
Doing the right thing need not be
boring! Bright colours give the app
interface a fun element.
Easy to use interface
Clear icons on the top of the screen
encourage users to explore and
navigate easily.
Grains - The App
After conducting initial surveys and
discussions, we came to a conclusion that
many people don’t realise the amount of food
that is wasted by them, or even the frequency
with which it is wasted. Hence, Grains App
focussed on making people more aware of
their habits.
The first screen allowed them to track their
food waste on a daily basis. It could be done
by just a slide and drag – the user could log
both the frequency of food wastage and an
approximate amount that was wasted.
I was responsible for conceptualising the app
and designing the user journey along with the
wireframes.
Honestly, did you waste food today?
4. This is the talk page on the app
(commonly knows as Newsfeed).
Here users can share whatever
stories they want to share, discuss
about food waste and start
campaigns to curb it.
Various elements in the app allow
users to move beyond just tracking
their food waste.
• Heroes: Learn about others who
are doing their bit to stop food
wastage.
• Cook: Recipes that use leftovers
• Talk: Discuss food waste and
steps that can be taken to stop it.
• Learn: Find latest news related to
food waste along with statistics
and facts.

Long scroll with minor animations
Long scroll helped in building a story
while the animations helped in
sending pointing in one direction.
Poem instead of plain text
Instead of plain boring text that
scares off audiences, we used a
rhyming text to help pique interest.
Bright , colourful interface
The colours were kept bright, just like
the platform.
7. Complete website
The small elements on the website were kept
as continious animations (Fluttering banner,
hovering bird, food dropping, etc). At the end
of the scroll, audience was asked to join the
Grains Movement.

8. For restaurants
Table Stands and stickers
We planned to approach restaurants to also sign up with grains to reduce food wastage.
Participating restaurants would have been given the above shown table stand, which
they could place on their dining tables.
