Every once in a while I am given the chance to really capture life; to tell a story, maybe even change a stereotype. Last week I was given that opportunity as I photographed two children who have a disability. I had spent the earlier part of the day doing various photos of subjects throughout a hospital, the whole time asking myself, “How will I create an image or set of images that will tell a respectful story?” I knew I was going to have to break down my own barriers. I have to say that I was truly touched with the honor as I began to create images. As the photo shoot began to unfold, I knew I had been given the opportunity to bring respect to a group of people that is very misunderstood. I was given the opportunity to undefine a stereotype!
