Q1: IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS
           OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

                   TITLE:
TITLE
Looking at my masthead that shows next to the text, it is well thought of how my chosen genre
matches to the masthead with no fail. My genre wasn’t hard to choose; R&B was the most
interesting but also could say it’s what I mainly listen to. Knowing a bit about this genre helped me
find my ways around the internet finding out more information in dept. Research was the main key
object which working with other media, the conventions that were used to finding out what type of
music magazines were out there, what the names were called and did they relate to R&B
specifically. The masthead is placed at the top centre of the front cover in bold as looking back at
my research most R&B magazines contain a large font. Picking the word ‘RHYME’ wasn’t easy as
my aim was to find a phrase/word that would show some kind of connect through the masthead to
my chosen genre. As its bold its also eye catchy which shows its readable and attractive. Its not
hidden behind the person as some magazine which I looked at had there masthead behind their
artist, I wanted to place the masthead partly on top of the artist’s hair so it helps it stand out,
balancing out the focus point with the artist and the masthead (sharing the attention) which helps
buyers buy the magazine by looking at who is featured on the front cover and from the masthead’s
look, choice of colour which is recognised throughout the front cover to the contents page to the
double page spread – the colour scheme of gold/brown, black, white and red. Once I finally chose
my masthead, I thought to myself how adding ‘R&B’ would help my masthead be more noticed by
what my genre is; I added the ‘R&B’ onto the letter ‘R’ to give and expensive unique finish to the
look. Finding the font I wanted by doing some research on my own on the internet – found a
website called ‘Dafont’ which was very helpful but I was able to edit some parts of my masthead in
‘Photoshop’. I used different tools to give an shadow effect which gave the masthead a 3D effect
instead of a boring flat look.

HERE IS MY MUSIC MAGAZINE – SIMILAR
MASTHEAD TO THE OTHER EXISITING MASTHEADS.

HERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT MAGAZINES
SHOWING THEIR MASTHEAD
MISE-EN-SCENE
(FRONT COVER) When looking at the front cover the main
attraction you get is the main image of my chosen artist, Medium
shot which is when the main focus of the person is from head the
waste line of the body. The camera which I used was called SLR
allowed all my previous photo’s to come out very clear and
professional. The good quality image which I chose to feature on
the front cover had a serious cheeky look as her facial expressions
engages the buyers attention. One of the reasons which this images
  featured on the front cover was because it had attitude to it;
although it doesn't include any musical instruments I though of
trying to match the R&B attitude of being rough and hard would
support my genre, to show off my genre without guessing the genre.
Looking back at the colour scheme I made sure beforehand that I
chose outfits which would suit the colours that are repeated in all
pages, I had brought in a couple of outfits such as; skirts, tops,
waste coat, high heels to show off the female power, had her hair
to be curly to give a volume effect, full make-up to show her beauty
with later on is spoken about in the Double page spread.
(CONTENTS) Looking through the contents page I've
included three images of three different people; the
two males I took a mid-shot and used Photoshop to
add a frame around both images once I had added all
kinds of effects to them, after i wanted to used a
different way of taking photos, one technique which
  I
found interesting to do and found fun was the
‘Painting with light’. I used my phones light and
made the shutter’s speed on the camera to be slow
motion to capture every movement of the light. I
ended up creating the word ‘Rhyme’ which I added
onto the contents page as another feature. All my
images were taken inside the studio specially when I
needed to take my ‘Painting with light’ technique in
a dark room to be able for my creativity to work.
(DPS) The setting of my taking of my images were based inside in the studio. I kept the white
background sheet to stay white so I didn’t have to crop/cut my model/artist out as I wanted to test
out on Photoshop how to link and edit the contrast of the picture and background to fit into my
colour scheme. I made sure I stuck to the black, white, gold scheme so I wanted her to wear black
and white for the DPS so the background can be based around gold as it makes the page stand out
from the rich bold colours.
CONETENTS PAGE
My contents page mainly shows bold capital letters for its headings to attract and
separate into three columns ‘Features’, ‘news’ and ‘feedback’. As my chosen genre
was R&B I made sure I did my own research on the internet looking back at old
music magazines which I could compare mine to others, it was a helpful tool to us as
I made sure I added what should be on a music R&B magazine would include, but in
my developed way, not copied from other produced magazines.
Using a technique which I used to create a different texture to the contents page was
‘Painting with light’. This was a last minute idea, as my main research tool was the
internet, I looked at what I could add but still seems to match the R&B scale. I ended
up finding a site which was all about Painting with light so I wanted to have a go
with that. Looking at the word ‘RHYME’ was done by the technique.
For the background I made it be a similar tone of what was used on my Front cover so all
the pages included in the magazine would blend into each other as a whole. The text
included on the page relates to music, there’s three images on the contents, I wanted to
relate them to the text and the page number. I left the text to be on the left hand side so its
easier to find and would be the first thing you see on the page with similar font style
throughout the pages. For the layout I had found it hard to develop the page into a better
standard but I found it difficult to improve it as I needed other peoples opinions on the
layout I had before. Knowing other ideas from people would help me, as a perfectionist I
do find it hard to find new ideas and comparing my ideas to a R&B feel to the page can
 be challenging.
The images were taken and edited with Photoshop although I did find a useful website
which does similar techniques as the program Photoshop which was called ‘Pic monkey’.
This website was fast and quick to use, I ended up using both in the end. I used blur and
shadow to help the image come to life (3D effect) to help stand each image out from the
page. I cut around one out of three images with the tools in Photoshop so I could paste
the image onto the golden background.
MUSIC GENRE AND HOW
                                    YOUR MAGAZINE SUGGESTS
                                              IT
My music magazine is produced in a way which shows its obvious points to show my
genre by using images, actions, positions, colours used, bold fonts, outfits etc. which
helps the page seem as what R&B is. Your able to guess quickly what genre my music
magazine is based on. My biggest aim was to show my skills in how I achieved my pages
to shout out ‘R&B’. For my front cover I used a straight face but cheeky at the same
time, showing my artist’s facial expressions to seem convincing that she has a interesting
story to ready about on the DPS. When you think of R&B you instantly think of facial
expressions and being rick bold colours. The positions which was used on the Front
cover was both hands in my models hair, that represents body language and showing
who’s in charge, it is as if she wants to show she is in full control of the Front cover, she
owns the page drawing attention to herself. In the contents page I thought of the idea of
having my long shot images of a male individual to point upwards with both hands
towards the word ‘RHYME’. On my DPS the image of my artist is looking upwards
towards the heading ‘MELISA HASAN’ whish would be the artist’s name. I wanted to
use a mid-shot of her but looking away from having eye contact with the readers, as if
she wants you to read her conversation alone, her secrets open up to whoever buys the
magazine to read about her. That’s why I wanted the eye contact to be lost.
LAYOUT
My layout for my Front cover, Contents page and my DPS is all from the media conventions from my
research into different music magazines which are based on my genre ‘R&B’. My idea of developing
the convention would be very difficult because once its been produced e.g. R&B already is known as
a mix, outstanding music, bold colours etc… I know I can’t change what the convention have already
made but I can develop my own ideas into what's already out there.
My Front cover had a simple layout following the invisible lines which I made sure I added the texts
around my image of the mid-shot of my artist. The text was placed not over powering the image,
spaced out and on the left side of the text box, not centred. The masthead is placed on top of the
artists hair but not totally cover the spotlight of the artist.
The Contents page has a simple not crowded layout. Starting from the heading ‘CONTENTS’ is based
at the top centre and next to it on the left is shown with two images of two males. The sections of the
text has been shortened by including ‘FEATURED, FEEDBACK and NEWS’ to make it look
professional and neater. On the right hand side a male individual is included pointing upwards which
makes the views look up and then everywhere else. The journey through my Contents page!
On my DPS I had quit a lot of text so I did some research into how many columns are used in a R&B
DPS, most magazine usually have 3 columns but mine includes not 3 but 4. I’ve kept all the text on
the left side of the DPS and on the right is showing an medium shot of my artist. I wanted to split the
page in half but used the same colour background on both pages on the DPS to look as a whole.
TITLE FONT AND STYLE

The title (Masthead) of my magazine shows the viewers an attractive, bold and
unique shapes which the magazines ended up to be called ‘RHYME’ with a
interesting forms to the shapes of the letter which helps to represent R&B. I
wanted to keep the capital letters as they are shown on the Front cover because I
thought it would have a big impact on the front cover, I didn’t want the name to
take the focus point of the image of the artist, I wanted to balance out the catchy
part of the page by adding interesting shapes but also keeping the page simple at
the same time, not adding complicated font styles. The golden colour to the
masthead is very glamour's as it blends in well with the rest of the page, it fits in
so well with the background colour, although looking at other music magazines
Front cover – most had white backgrounds but I wanted to test out if using one
of the colour from my colour scheme would be more convincing to buy.
COSTUMES AND PROPS

The costumes and props which were used for the Front cover and DPS was black, white
and gold clothing, jewellery and high heels to match the colour scheme I was following
throughout my Music Magazine. The make-up that my artist was wearing wasn’t too much
but wasn’t natural, I wanted a smart, elegant look to her face glowing look to look
attractive to males as well as females to want to check out her DPS for more information
about beauty tips which is featured inside. For the Front cover and DPS I used the same
artist to feature on those pages whilst I used three other male individuals to feature on my
Contents page wearing black or white. Making sure before I take the photos in the studio I
ask all my models to wear either black and white or gold to match everything together. The
clothing which was either used or could have been used were a hard decision as I tried my
best not to make the image seem as a fashion magazine, by making sure I added more
‘bling’ to the outfit balanced out the outfit as R&B is more of the gold jewellery.
PEOPLE

Looking overall at all my pages adding all the people I’ve used in total
would be my artist and three other male individuals, so In total would
come as four people throughout my Front cover, Contents Page and
DPS. As my artist would featured on the Front cover and the DPS I
wanted to add one or more male people in the magazine as I think its
very important to know your target audience and basing the magazine
around both genders is a sage idea, it means more buyers. If your
thinking why did I have a female artist featuring on the Front cover, well
my main reason was because I thought females can look sexy and R&B
is all about looks and showing yourself off, I thought it would really
attract the males into buying the magazine from the look of the Front
cover.
