It is an organization formed on 24th October 1945 after World War II comprising of 51 independent
states to promote international peace and security. Currently having 193 member states and 54
countries that are not in the United Nations.

Decisions are based on majority votes. Issues that fall under the jurisdiction of the charter are
discussed here however assembly can discuss matters related to socio–economics, politics, and

2.Economic and Social Council
The Economic and Social Council "ECOSOC" consists of 54 members elected by the general
assembly for 3 years with 1/3rd retiring after every year. Here decisions are made on simple
majority basis, with each member having 1 vote. It coordinates the economic, social and related
work of the United Nations and its agencies and institutions. It creates a report for the general
assembly regarding socio–economic, educational, and cultural problems all over the world. Its main
functions are to raise the standard of life, eliminate unemployment, develop the state economically,
to protect the fundamental rights with no discrimination of any sort and to promote cooperation in
cultural and educational fields. To achieve these purposes they have international conferences where
they appoint commissions.
3.International Court of Justice
The International Court of Justice, located at Hague in Netherlands, consists of 15 judges elected
by the general assembly and Security Council for 9 years on merit basis. It settles legal disputes
between states and gives opinions to the UN and its agencies.

World peace is a topic chosen to prove that there is currently no possible way for us, humans, to
achieve peace between all the nations without us having to deal with current problems we have
now. The study of the topic has been quite hard, but fascinating as the research forehand has to lead

international relations view. A realist would reject the notion of world peace, since conflict is the

Collective security has become more of a theory than an actual practice for the UN. By definition,
the UN needs to identify the aggressor in order to proceed. Unfortunately, in most international
disputes, it is hard to determine which state is the aggressor. It becomes even more difficult
finding the aggressor when trying restore peace in an intrastate conflict (Nye & Welch, 2011, p.
192). Not only is it hard to determine the aggressor, but it is also difficult for the UN to agree on
who is the aggressor. According to the UN charter, article 24, the Security Council has the "primary
responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security, and agree that in carrying out
its duties under this responsibility the Security Council acts on [UN's] behalf" (United Nations,
1945). It is the Security Council's duty to determine the aggressor in an international dispute, and
issue diplomatic policy to resolve the crisis. The Security Council has to approve measures against

Disarmament does offer a solution to the problem of war, but it cannot offer an adequate solution in
the absence of a proper study of the factors leading to a war. And these factors are expansionism,
the tendency of some countries to impose their political system and life style on others and the

Most of my point of view of different culture or belief did come from teaching in school when I
took a World Religion course in grade 10. I learn a lot more about other beliefs and cultures more

PEACE On 28 June 1914 a hand grenade was rolled beneath a car travelling in a motorcade in the

noted by Historians and scholars has been the effect of WW1 on World Peace. Since the end of
that war there has been numerous attempts by mankind to put in place systems to prevent

Peace And Security In Islam:
Islam is religion of peace. The concept of 'peace' in Islam draws its origins from the Arabic word
"Salaam", which means "secured, pacified, or submitted." .The literal meaning of Islam is "peace".
The concept of peace in Islam can be determined from the fact that while two Muslims meet they
say which means "peace be unto you" in the response it is answered that Which means that "peace
be unto you too". We can define this scenario that even when two or more Muslims meet with each
other they send peace unto one another. They basically pray for each other that you may be safe
from any harm. This gives us a rough thought that how Islam is favoring peace and implements it in

when they think of security has to do with laws. Laws are definitely important for security as they
keep the parameters of acceptable behavior. In fact, Islam is a religion that not only provides general
principles for life but also provides detailed laws.
These laws further bring about peace and security. One of the main goals of Islamic law is the
preservation and continuance of life. These laws are not meant simply for the sake of punishment.

World Peace is something that will never happen. Too many countries have too much military
power and don't want to give in to any other country. War is something that the world is going to
have to deal with because there has been very few years over the history of the world that have
been war free. Like one quote by an unknown author says, "Peace is rare: less than 8% of the time
since the beginning of recorded time has the world been entirely at peace. In a total of 3530 years,
286 have been warless. Eight thousand treaties have been broken in this time."
