You create application profiles created independently of an application.
Each application can contain use only one application profile. However, the same application profile can be used to create many applications.
You perform these step to create an application profile:
Access the Define Application Profile Process Pad
Enter Languages
Define the Calendar
Edit Frequencies
Edit Periods
Saving the Application Profile

Saving the Application Profile
The Define Application Profile process pad walks you through the steps of defining a profile
To access the process pad, select Define Application Profile from the Hyperion Financial Management Windows Desktop
You can edit an existing profile or create a new one
Defining profiles can only be done from the Windows desktop client
You can define up to 10 languages for your application. This lets you create descriptions in different languages for each item in your application
You cannot change the number of years after you create the application, so be sure to allow enough years to accommodate both historical data and forecast data.
Standard Calendar
You select months, quarters, trimesters or half-years as base periods. The base periods are created automatically
Summary periods are created automatically based on the base periods you select.
When you use a Standard calendar, the summary time periods available are determined by the base time periods you select. Example 1: You select months as base time periods. You can select trimesters or quarter and half year as summary time periods.
Example 2: You select quarters as base periods. You can select half-year, but not trimesters, as summary time periods
Custom
You specify a prefix for the period label and the number of base periods to create. Base periods are created automatically. You create the summary periods manually
Manual
You create both the base time periods and the summary time periods manually
Frequencies define the running totals for time periods available in your application, for example quarter to date or year to date. You can define up to 6 frequencies in your application.
You use the Edit Periods pane to add or delete base and summary periods. You can use drag and drop to move periods to new locations in the hierarchy. Each level in the hierarchy corresponds to a frequency. If you added frequencies on the Edit Frequencies screen, you can add levels to the hierarchy corresponding to the frequencies.
You can save the application profile locally or on the application server. Files are saved with a .per extension
You reference the application profile file when you create an application. You can also open the application profile file from the Hyperion Financial Management windows desktop to make modifications. If you modify an application profile, the changes do not affect existing applications that have been created using the profile. The changes will affect new applications created using the profile.
An application name can contain a maximum of 10 alpha-numeric characters. It cannot start with a number or contain spaces or special characters, Application labels are not case-sensitive. For example, App1 and APP1 are considered the same application. HFM, HSV, and HSX are reserved names and cannot be used for application labels.
The application description can contain a maximum of 10 alpha-numeric characters. HFM, HSV, and HSX are reserved names and cannot be used for application descriptions.
The application label cannot contain spaces and can be a maximum of 10 characters
In the Application Profile text box you must enter the name of the application profile file for the application.
To delete an application, you must be the owner of the application and have the system administrator role in Hyperion Management. By default, the user that created the application is the owner.
You use the Manage Metadata task from the Windows client desktop to create and edit metadata files
Metadata files can be stored locally or on the server. You do not need to open an application to create or edit a metadata file. After you edit a metadata file, you load it into an application.
You need to reload the metadata file into the application each time you make edits to the file. You can load the same metadata file into more than one application.
You also can create and edit metadata files using a text editor.
You use the Manage Metadata pane to add and edit dimension members. You also use it to configure application settings and to add currencies and consolidation methods. Your save your edits for all metadata types application in a single file. For example, if you name your metadata file AppElements, metadata for accounts, entities scenarios and all the other application elements are save in the Appelements file.
You use the Tree View panel of the Manage Metadata pane to setup dimension hierarchies. The icons above the Members list lets you manage the hierarchy. In addition to the icons, a right-click menu is available.
You must use the right-click menu to deletemembers. To delete a member, right click the member and select Remove from Parent to remove the member just from its current parent or Delete from Dimension to remove the members from the dimension entirely.
Use to add a new child member beneath the currently selected member
Use to add a new member at the same level as the currently selected member
Use to promote the currently selected member up to the next level in the hierarchy
Use to change the position of a member beneath its parent. These icons do not let you move members between parents
Use to show or hide the children of the selected member.
The Member List
The Member List tab displays a flat list of all the members in the dimension. You can drag members from the Member List to the hierarchy in the Tree View panel. This is an easy way to place a member under more than one parent.
Any member not a part of the hierarchy defined on the Tree View panel is an orphaned member since it has no parent or sibling members. Orphaned member are not allowed in Hyperion Financial Management. If you load a metadata file that has orphaned members an error results.
The Only Show Orphaned Members check box lets you filter the member list to show orphaned members. You can then assign the orphaned members to parents or delete them from the dimension.
Editing Members in List View
The List View panel lets you view or edit metadata in a flat list format. It lets you manipulate groups of members. You can highlight and copy cells, columns or rows using standard Windows features. To make the copy, cut, and paste features easier to use, you can disable combo boxes on the List View panel. It provides a spreadsheet-like interface, with a row for each metadata item and a column for each attribute. It is similar to a spreadsheet.
Member information that you add or edit in list view is not validated until you change views. You can force a validation by clicking Validate or selecting another dimension.
You cannot assign parents to members or work with hierarchies in list view. All members that you add in list view are orphan members. After you add members in list view, you can use the Member List tab on the Tree View panel to assign parents to the members
You can merge or replace metadata
Merge updates existing dimension members and adds new members
Replace replaces the existing metadata with the data in the file
The Clear all metadata before loading options clears all metadata and data from the application
