3. The Dangers of Smoking in Health
– Lung Disease
Smoking can cause changes in the structure and
function of the airways and lung. In large
airways, mucous cells become enlarged
(hypertrophy) and mucus glands multiply
(hyperplasia). In small airways, inflammation
occurs from mild to narrowing due to increased
cells and mucus buildup and an increase in
inflammation cells in the lung.
4. – Heart disease
Problems with the heart include atherosclerosis
and peripheral arterial disease. Atherosclerosis
occurs when plaque builds up in blood vessels.
This plaque buildup blocks the flow of blood so
that it can be fatal. Meanwhile, peripheral arterial
disease occurs when the arteries in the legs and
arms become narrow, which also interferes with
blood flow.
5. – Bad breath and tooth decay
The danger of smoking can cause bad breath
and stained teeth. It can also cause gum disease
and taste damage. The most serious danger of
smoking is to increase the risk of developing
cancer of the tongue, throat and lips.
6. – Miscarriage
Smoking during pregnancy can increase the risk of
miscarriage. The baby is also susceptible to
asthma, ear infections, growth disorders, physical
abnormalities, and sudden death syndrome in
infants.
7. – Eye desease
The eyes didn’t escape the dangers of smoking
for health. These unhealthy habits can interfere
with the ability to see and increase the risk of
various eye diseases. These eye diseases
include glaucoma, macular degeneration, and
cataracts.
