2. How it formed Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas on August 23, 2005. It crossed Florida as a category 1 which killed some people and flooded places, before strengthening quickly in the Gulf of Mexico.
3. In New Orleans On August 29th 2005 the centre of the hurricane passed on the east of New Orleans, Louisiana as a category 5. By August 31st 80% of New Orleans was flooded. Some parts of the flood were just under 15 feet, about 4.5 meters. Most of the city levees broke somewhere , which caused most of the floods. 90% of the people who lived in Southeast Louisiana were evacuated to a much safer place. 1,500 people died in hurricane Katrina. Katrina was one of the five most deadly hurricanes in America, and was the sixth strongest overall. The damage cost 89.9 billion American dollars.
