1. The Good Son (1993)
Narrative Trajectory
Following his mother's death, Mark (Elijah Wood) is sent to Maine to visit his aunt and uncle
while his father goes on a business trip to Tokyo. Mark meets his cousin, Henry (Macaulay
Culkin), and the two quickly form a friendship. However, Henry begins to show increasing
signs of psychotic behavior that worry Mark.
Bounded World
Mark (Elijah Wood) is trapped from anyone believing that his cousin is increasing symptoms
of psychotic behavior. His cousin has an innocent face, a good looking boy on the outside yet
an evil boy within the inside. He tries to talk to someone but they do not believe him. How
could they ? What could he do? He looked so sweet …
Time Scape
There comes a long period of slow and painful discovery. He needs to fix everything before
his dad returns from Tokyo.
Characters Ethos
Henry; unveils a strange and destructive personality. The movie reveals his past of him killing
his younger brother, and his attempts to kill his mother and sister. Mark isn't taken seriously
when he tries to tell his uncle about Henry's intentions. His mother does however become
suspicious. This results in a climatic death of Henry and a mother's tough choice to save him
or Mark.
2. 8MM (1999)
The Narrative Trajectory
Tom Welles, private eye, is hired by a wealthy widow, whose well-known husband passed
away recently. She has found a reel of S8-film in a safe. On the film is a cruel slaughtering
of a young girl, who obviously does not pretend or act: A snuff-movie. Welles takes up
investigation, which leads him to the girl's mother and from there to Hollywood, into the
office of a porn flick producer. Welles' rising obsession to solve the case also carries him
away from his wife and new-born daughter. But when finally names are at hand, Welles
suddenly finds himself on ice much thinner than he planned.
Bounded World
Tom Wells has a new born baby, he set out to do one more case little did he know this
would be the worst case he has ever dealt with. He needed to finish the job as he was the
only one left to solve the revolting never forgetting case there was no turning back.
Time Scape
Tom Wells had a new born family to get to. He needed to get the case over and done with
as soon as he could.
Characters Ethos
During Private investigator Tom Welles (Nick Cage) trip, he befriends Max California
(Joaquin Phoenix) a struggling Goth musician working behind the register in an adult
bookstore. Max takes Tom on a tour of the seedy underworld of the porn industry as Tom
fights to keep his head straight while seeking out the identity of the girl on the tape. He is
shown strong images that he can never forget, that will always be in the back of his mind.
3. Flight Plan (2005)
The Narrative Trajectory
The husband of aviation engineer Kyle Pratt has just died in Berlin. Now she is flying back to New York
with his coffin and their six-year-old daughter Julia. Three hours into the flight Kyle awakens to find that
Julia is gone! It's a big double-decker plane, so very concerned mother has a lot of territory to cover in
order to find her daughter. But as Kyle fights to discern the truth, she takes matters into her own hands.
Bounded World
Kyle has strong belief that her daughter is still alive and is determined to find her no matter what. She
finds evidence of the ‘little heart’ she first drew on the window of the plane before the plane set off. The
people around her haven't seen the little girl Kyle was talking about, and they all start thinking she was
making stuff up and going a bit crazy. (a physco)
Time Scape
Kyle has until the end of the plane journey to find her daughter on the plane after that plane has landed
there is nothing to tell her that her daughter has gone or still on, so she needs to move and act as quickly
as possible.
Character Ethos
Kyle Pratt (Jodie Foster) is a propulsion engineer based in Berlin, Germany. Her husband David (John
Benjamin Hickey) died from falling off the roof of an avionic manufacturing building, and now Kyle and
her six year-old daughter Julia are flying home to Long Island to bury him and stay with Kyle's parents.
They fly aboard a passenger aircraft Kyle helped design. After falling asleep for a few hours, Kyle wakes to
find that Julia is missing. After trying to remain calm at first, she begins to panic, and Captain Marcus Rich,
is forced to conduct a search. One of the flight attendants calls in to the airport they just departed from
and, shockingly, the gate attendant says that they have no record of Julia boarding the flight. In addition,
according to the passenger manifest, Julia's seat is registered empty. When Kyle checks for Julia's
boarding pass, it is missing.
