1. TASK 1 – Choose a question
This sheet gives suggestions on possible questions - but the final choice is
yours. However you should discuss any decision with your teacher.
THINK!
 Are there any historical topics in which you have a particular interest?
 Is there a topic about which you’d like to know more?
 Have you studied any particular topics that you would to further
investigate?
REMEMBER: your project is a debate
(something that includes opinions about different factors)
When picking your topic make sure you can identify at least three issues to
discuss as part of your final essay. Your question could identify one of these
(known as an isolated factor).
Use question introductions such as:
* To what extent did …? * How important was …?
* How significant was …? * “Quote.” How valid is this view?
For example….
 How important were nuclear weapons in causing the Cold War?
 “The slave trade ended because of the work of MPs such as William
Wilberforce.” How valid is this view?
