THE AIR SCRUBBERS HAS BEEN INSTALLED
During the 10 months I’ve worked at CS Wind, the Blast and
Paint boards have been hard to maintain clean.
The boards have been recreated more than a handful of times
because either the labels needed to be replaced or lines had to
be redrawn or taped again.
In efforts to improve White Tower’s information sharing process,
Mike Semande and I created new magnetic boards for Paint and
Blast. They are easy to use and maintain properly and helps in-
crease White Tower’s overall 5S score with the new upcoming 5S
audit criteria.

WHAT IS AN AIR SCRUBBER?
In the simplest terms, an air scrubber is a portable filtration system. It draws in air from the surrounding environment and passes it
through a series of filters. These filters efficiently remove particles from the air to help improve indoor air quality.
An air scrubber stands alone in the center of a room without any ducting attached. The air it filters is recirculated to the surround-
ing area. An air scrubber application helps improve the general air quality of the jobsite.
HOW DOES AN AIR SCRUBBER WORK?
In order to remove airborne particles from the surrounding environment, an air scrubber draws the air through a series of filters.
Each filter stage operates with progressively higher efficiency. The net effect is to produce the cleanest air possible at the highest
rate of airflow through the entire filter system.
THE HEPA FACTS
HEPA, which stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air in reference to filter performance.
HEPA filtration is a critical part of maintaining a clean indoor environment. A proper HEPA filtration system is especially important
in environments where dangerous contamination may be present.
A HEPA filter is a type of high efficiency particulate air filter. This type of air filter can remove at least 99.97% of airborne particles
0.3 micrometers in diameter. Particles of this size are the most difficult to filter and thus the most penetrating particle size. Parti-
cles that are larger or smaller are filtered with even higher efficiency. HEPA filters are the most effective air filtration filters to re-
move Contaminants from the air.

FEBRUARY MARCH APRIL
SHOP FLOOR 5S AUDIT CRITERIA
Here comes a new 5S audit plan. Lean Team has worked hard
on preparing the 5S audit plan and would now like to introduce
it to all employees. We can proudly say that the new 5S audit
plan is by far the most simple, clear and easy to understand
among all 5S audit criteria available on the market and signifi-
cantly improves on the previous 5S audit criteria.
Let’s look at the 5S audit criteria on the left. There are a total
of 25 photos arranged by 5 categories vertically and 5 levels
horizontally. The 5 categories are floor, tool, equipment, con-
sumable, and document. They are key components for safely
and efficiently at all workplaces as far as 5S goes.
Each category has a total 5 criteria that are arranged from the
left to the right by level of difficulty. They are sort, order, shine,
standard, and sustain. Picking up garbage is the easiest one
and maintaining a clean and organized shop is the most diffi-
cult one in the floor category. The same concepts apply to the
other categories.
Auditors will give either a score of one or zero for each criteri-
on. For example, for the sort level on the floor category, if
there is one piece of garbage in a defined audit area, the audi-
tors will give a score of zero. If there is no garbage, they will
give a score of one. Either zero or one - it is very simple.
The auditors will audit all red colored areas in the maps of the
Black Tower and the White Tower on a bi-weekly basis. Lean
Team presents the maps and schedule below. All February
audits are preliminary audits and all audits after that will be
formal audits which will be recorded and be reported to the
top management team.
Lean team would like to work with everyone to improve the 5S
scores in CS Wind Canada. Please feel free to contact us if you
have any questions at hlee@cswind.com or klaje-
vard@cswind.com. Thank you.

DETROIT DYNASTY
How do you measure success in hockey? Do you measure it based on
revenue stream or on-ice product? Personally, I believe success has
to contain a measure of both. The team must be a consistent, effec-
tive playoff competitor and not bleed millions of dollars every year (a
la Arizona Coyotes). The Detroit Red Wings are one of the NHL’s mod-
el franchises; they have made the playoffs for 23 consecutive years
and are the 9th
most valuable franchise, as per Forbes Magazine. Let’s
take a look at how Detroit has become a consistent powerhouse on
the ice and maintained financial stability.
Detroit’s scouting and player development is the envy of the
NHL. Their roster is typically made up of 75% of players that they
have scouted, drafted and patiently developed. Their current roster
contains regular All-Stars Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Niklas
Kronwall, goaltender Jimmy Howard as well as young phenoms and
future All-Stars Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar. They also have a
strong crop of youth arriving at the big club in Thomas Jurco, Ryan
Sproul, Xavier Ouellet, Riley Sheahan and goaltender-of-the-future
Petr Mrazek. All of these players have been drafted by Detroit and
patiently seasoned with their farm team, the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
Detroit’s success on the ice translates into consistent late draft picks. Due to Detroit’s ability to consistently and effectively develop players that
become regular top line performers, they do not require high draft picks or significant rebuilding efforts that teams like the Edmonton Oilers have
needed to try to turn their team’s fortunes around. They are a level above every other team in the league when it comes to scouting and player
development, and this allows them to maintain a very high level of performance year in and year out. This consistent high level of on-ice perfor-
mance creates an energy in a city that drives people to the arena. The fan-base has little to complain about and have provided consistent sell-
outs at the Joe, providing the team with a strong revenue stream every year. The Wings had a 452 consecutive game sellout streak (Top 5 ever in
all North American professional sports) from 1996-2007, and a current sellout streak of 150 games. They have an extremely loyal fan base, with
average ticket sales numbering 20,066 per game. They are one of the highest revenue, high performance teams in the NHL.

Sunday’s overnight snow storm shattered a previous Wind-
sor snowfall record, according to Environment Canada. A winter
storm pounded the area, dumping a whopping 37 centimeters of
snow over two days. That was enough to set the record for single-day
snowfall on Feb. 1 with 32.2 cm recorded by midnight at Windsor
Airport, the national weather agency reported Monday. The Super-
bowl storm shattered the previous record of 15.4 cm set in 2011. It
was also not far off the highest ever single-day snowfall for Windsor.
A total of 36.8 cm fell on February 25, 1965. With colder-than-normal
temperatures setting in, the snow likely isn’t going away any time
soon, explained Geoff Coulson, warning preparedness meteorologist
with Environment Canada.

SNOWFALL RECORD IN WINDSOR
1. There are two doors. One of them is open and the other is closed.
2. In front of each door, there is a doorkeeper.
3. One of the doorkeepers always speaks the lie; the other always speaks the truth.
4. You have to ask only one question to either one of them, and decide which door you will enter
through.
What question will you ask? Note: You don’t know which door is open or closed and you also don't
know who speaks lie and who speaks true.
The answer will be in shooting star newspaper next week.
