District forest officers are responsible to regulate forestry activities in the
district following locally established sustainable NRM principles, including
forest protection, livelihood enhancement and income generating activities,
law enforcement and yield regulation. District forest officers develop and
implement community forestry and leasehold forestry program; provide
trainings to local communities; coordinate stakeholders; and present annual
progress to the Department of Forests.

achievement
Developed five year plan (2009- 2014) for the development of community
forestry and agroforestry for one of the districts (i.e.Terhathum Nepal).
Implemented activities through supportive staffs successfully and achieved
100% progress. Coordinated community forest user groups, NGOs and bi-
lateral projects engaged in the district and developed common understanding
and non-overlapping activities. Developed and implemented a project to
rehabilitate a 250 hectare degraded land in the three districts (Terhathum,
Jumla and Dailekh) and turned 150 hectare degraded forest into natural
regeneration site. Introduced livelihood improvement framework in pro-poor
leasehold forestry groups and also developed a leasehold forestry cooperative
to ensure local productions (e.g. vegetables, milk, chilly) by users get better
price in the two districts.
