This document discusses issues and challenges faced by women that are barriers to empowerment, including education, poverty, health and safety, professional inequality, and unemployment. It notes that while the education gap between women and men in India is closing, female literacy rates still lag significantly behind males. Poverty exposes women to exploitation as domestic workers. Health and safety concerns for mothers are also worrying. Professional inequality exists in both private industries and government, where women face barriers in male-dominated work environments. Unemployment also makes women vulnerable to workplace exploitation and harassment.

2. Women’s empowerment can be
defined to promoting women’s sense
of self-worth, their ability to determine
their own choices, and their right to
influence social change for
themselves and others.
It is closely aligned with female
empowerment – a fundamental human
right that’s also key to achieving a
more peaceful, prosperous world
What is women empowerment ?
3. Issues and challenges which are a
barrier in women empowerment :
● Education
● Poverty
● Health and safety
● Professional inequality
● unemployment
4. The country has taken a leap since
independence and is concerned
about education. The gap between
women and men is wide. 82.14%
of adult males are well educated,
while in India only 65.46% of adult
females are considered literate.
Gender bias is in higher
education; specialized vocational
training that strongly influences
women in employment and
achieves top leadership in any
field.
Education
5. Poverty is considered to be the
biggest threat to world peace
and eradication of poverty
should be as important a
national goal as eradication of
illiteracy. This leads to the
exploitation of women as
domestic helpers.
Poverty
6. Women's health and safety
issues are paramount in the
interest of the country and are
important factors in the
assessment of women's
empowerment in the country.
However, there are worrying
concerns where mothers are
concerned.
Health and Safety
7. This inequality is prevalent
in employment and
promotion. In government
offices and private
industries, women face a
myriad of barriers in a
male-dominated and
dominated environment.
Professional Inequality
8. It is becoming more and
more difficult for women to
find the right job for
themselves. They become
more vulnerable to exploitation
and harassment in the
workplace.
