The masthead is spread across the middle of the top of the front page. Regular
readers or ones familiar with the magazine will still be able to easily recognize it due
to its archetypal design/font. The significantly relevant link between the colours
featured in the masthead, the actual name and its central placement on a white
background defines prominence whilst enhancing the bright colours allowing a large
amount of attention to be drawn thus enhancing the potential recognition of an
audience that may then be influenced to purchase the issue.
There will be two main cover lines situated either side of the main artists image, these
will be portrayed as the most important cover lines due to their placement in contrary
to the image and other cover lines. However considering how most magazines are sold,
with only the left third visible; other cover lines are placed closely underneath and
above the barcode. This will allow even at first glance, the reader to be informed of
what is included within the magazine articles.
The anchorage text will be situated more towards the bottom of the page and will be
large bright and bold to stand out else it may not entice a potential reader/buyer.
When considering and brainstorming the name for my magazine, lots of things came into
consideration such as ‘what name is original, unused and memorable’ . Following this,
inspiration of the ((standby)) of the Apple Mac computers at school was an animation of
an intertwining colour spectrum, the animation itself was rather enticing thus sparking
the inspiration, however there are more than one magazine named spectrum, luckily none
being of a music magazine which softly sits in the magazines USP.

Initially I’d have liked the contents page to consist of two large
images relevant to the features situated/numbered directly
below. However I felt that wasn’t really enough content as I
think a good balance of text and photographs is important,
therefore I tried 3 images, then 4. I decided the best look for the
contents of my magazine was to have 4 images.
I then tried out one large spread with images side by side
looking as if they’re fading into each other. This relates to the
title of the magazine, Spectrum, as the colours of a spectrum
gradually intertwine into each other on say the colour wheel.
The images will contain page numbers of which article to
image is relevant to, this allows a reader to quickly be aware of
where to find their desired article if an artist they
recognize/like/listen to. Other features are followed by
annotations underneath.
I then changed my contents page to have larger spaces between
the images to include even more information in order to fully
inform the reader of any features. Information such as what
gigs or festivals are coming up soon

5. INITIAL IDEAS FOR ONE OF THE PAGES
Here were my hand drawn initial ideas for Spectrum Magazine. I decided not to go with the first image’s
design for a page as I thought it ended up looking a little messy, this may have caused distraction and
disoriented the reader catalysing them to skip the page to find something a little more organised and
clearer to read.
