Mrs. Labuski / Mrs. Pinto Period _______________ Lessons 1-12 Quiz Review
1. Describe a ratio relationship, in the context of this survey, for which the ratio is 3:2
There are 6 students who prefer basketball for every 4 students who prefer softball types
of sports. The ratio 6:4 is equivalent to 3:2 since it has the same value.
There are 9 students who prefer soccer for every 6 students who prefer basketball. The
ratio 9:6 is equivalent to 3:2 since it has the same value.
2. Matt & Andrew had a competition at the batting cage. Matt hit 7 balls for every 4 balls
Andrew hit. Andrew hit 24 balls. How many balls did each boy hit? Use a tape diagram to
solve. State your answer in a full complete sentence.
Matt
6 6 6 6 6 6 6
Andrew
6 6 6 6
24 ÷ 4 = 6
Matt 7 x 6 = 42
=24
Matt hit 42 ball and Andrew hit 24 balls.
3. Mrs. Labuski stated that the ratio of the Braves wins to losses was
16:11. Justify her statement. Show your work using either a ratio
table, tape diagram or multiplicative value. Then state your answer
in a full, complete sentence. Be sure to use the word “value” in your
answer.
method 1
16:11 96: 66
x6 x6
The ratios 16:11 and 96:66 are equivalent because they were both multiplied by the same
constant which was 6.
method 2 equivalent values
The ratios 16:11 and 96:66 are equivalent because they both have the same value of 16:11.
method 3 tape diagram
ratio 16:11
Wins
6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6
Losses
6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6
=96
=66
The tape diagram shows a ratios of 16:11. The value of each unit (the contstant) is 6 so the
equivalent ratio is 96:66.
4. The ratio table below shows three cups of water weigh 12 ounces. Complete the ratio table.
Cups of Water Weight in Ounce
3 12
6 24
9 36
12 48
15 60
a. Describe one pattern in the table. (hint: look at the columns)
The pattern in the first column is that I used repeated addition. Three is added to each cup of
water to get the next cup of water.
The pattern in the second column is that I used repeated addition. Twelve is added to each
weight to get the weight.
b. Describe a second pattern in the table. (hint: look at the rows)
The pattern in the rows is that it’s repeated multiplication. Each cup of water is multiplied by
the constant 4 to find the weight. Each cup of water is ¼ of the weight.
c. What is the value of the ratios. 1:4
d. What can you conclude about the ratios in the table. We can conclude that all of the ratios
are quivalent since they have the same value of 1:4
5. Mrs. Labuski is planting a garden in her back yard. While shopping for fertilizer, she
realized different brands require different amounts of water. She wants to buy the strongest
fertilizer with most nutrients and least amount of water.
Green Grow Fertilizer says to mix three cups of fertilizer with two cups of water. Quick Grow
Fertilizer says to mix five cups of fertilizer with three cups of water.
a. ) For Green Grow, the ratio of fertilizer to water is 3:2
b.) Complete the table with equivalent ratios.
Fertilizer (c) 3 6 9 15
Water (c) 2 4 6 10
c.) For Quick Grow, the ratio of fertilizer to water is 5:3
d.) Complete the table with equivalent ratios.
Fertilizer (c) 5 10 15 25
Water (c) 3 6 9 15
e.) Which brand makes stronger fertilizer? Justify your answer. (Write a sentence that
compares the two fertilizers. Both should be included in your answer.)
Quick Grow’s is stronger because it contains 10 cups of fertilizer for the same 6 cups water
when Green grow only has 9 cups of fertizler for the same amout of water, so the fertilizer is
less diluted.
6. Martin can read 30 pages in 15 minutes. At this rate, how long will it take him to read a 100-
page book? Use a double number line diagram to support your answer, and show all work.
First complete a ratio table.

  • 6. 3. Mrs. Labuski stated that the ratio of the Braves wins to losses was 16:11. Justify her statement. Show your work using either a ratio table, tape diagram or multiplicative value. Then state your answer in a full, complete sentence. Be sure to use the word “value” in your answer. method 1 16:11 96: 66 x6 x6 The ratios 16:11 and 96:66 are equivalent because they were both multiplied by the same constant which was 6. method 2 equivalent values The ratios 16:11 and 96:66 are equivalent because they both have the same value of 16:11. method 3 tape diagram ratio 16:11 Wins 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 Losses 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 =96 =66 The tape diagram shows a ratios of 16:11. The value of each unit (the contstant) is 6 so the equivalent ratio is 96:66.
  • 7. 4. The ratio table below shows three cups of water weigh 12 ounces. Complete the ratio table. Cups of Water Weight in Ounce 3 12 6 24 9 36 12 48 15 60 a. Describe one pattern in the table. (hint: look at the columns) The pattern in the first column is that I used repeated addition. Three is added to each cup of water to get the next cup of water. The pattern in the second column is that I used repeated addition. Twelve is added to each weight to get the weight. b. Describe a second pattern in the table. (hint: look at the rows) The pattern in the rows is that it’s repeated multiplication. Each cup of water is multiplied by the constant 4 to find the weight. Each cup of water is ¼ of the weight. c. What is the value of the ratios. 1:4 d. What can you conclude about the ratios in the table. We can conclude that all of the ratios are quivalent since they have the same value of 1:4
