  2. 2. Check-in Your Books<br />Come to the check-in desk.<br />1. Scan your book’s barcode. You do not need your library card.<br />
  3. 3. Check-in Your Books (continued)<br />2. Use the mouse to click on “reset”.<br />3. Look at the white spine label of your book. Check to see what is on the top line of the label.<br />
  4. 4. Check-in Your Books (continued)<br />4. Place your book on the return cart on the correct shelf, using the labels on the shelf as your guide.<br />TOP ROW—E, PB E, POP, Graphic Novels<br />MIDDLE ROW--F, PB F, AR, ER, NC, MAG, REF, PRO<br />BOTTOM ROW—Non-fiction 000-900<br />
  5. 5. Find a Book<br />1. Find a stick to help mark your book’s place on the shelf.<br />2. Place the stick on the shelf next the book you want to preview.<br />
  6. 6. Find a Book (continued)<br />3. Preview the book.<br />4. If you do not want the book, place it back on the shelf by your stick. Remove the stick. Go look for another book in the same way.<br />
  7. 7. Ready for Check-out<br />When you find the book you want, place the stick back in a bucket.<br />Find the basket of library cards with your teacher’s name. Find your card.<br />
  8. 8. Check-out Your Books at the Computer<br />Come to the check-out desk.<br />Follow the step in this order.<br />
  9. 9. Check-out Your Books at the Computer (continued)<br />Push the button on the scanner to turn on the red light.<br />1. Scan your card. Listen for the “OK” sound with two tones.<br />
  10. 10. Check-out Your Books at the Computer (continued)<br />2. Scan your books. Listen for the “OK” sound with two tones. If you hear one tone, stop and get a grownup to help with the password.<br />3. Use the mouse to click on “reset”. <br />
  11. 11. E = Everybody Picture Books<br />These books are shelved by the author’s last name.<br />
  12. 12. F = Fiction Chapter Books<br />These books are shelved by the author’s last name.<br />F = Fiction Hardbacks<br />PB F = Paperback Fiction<br />
  13. 13. 000-999 = Non-Fiction<br />These books are shelved by subject using the Dewey Decimal System. The call number on the spine will be between 000-999.<br />
  14. 14. Graphic Novels—red “talking bubble” sticker.<br />Big Books—BB <br />
  15. 15. Early Readers = ER<br />Early Readers are found in the cube shelves in the center of the media center.<br />
  16. 16. Accelerated Reader = AR<br />North Carolina = NC<br />English Spanish Language = ESL<br />
  17. 17. Atlases = REF<br />Seasonal Books or New Books<br />
  18. 18. Reference books = REF<br />Reference books are for use in the Media Center only. They cannot be checked out by students.<br />
  19. 19. Magazines = MAG<br />The newest issue cannot be checked out. Older issues can be checked out using a plastic holder with a matching magazine name and barcode.<br />Newspapers are for use in the Media Center only.<br />
