This document provides step-by-step instructions for building a learning module in Blackboard. It explains how to create a content area and introductory page to set expectations. It then guides the user to set up the first learning module by giving it a name and description and selecting display and accessibility options. The completed framework will include the module content area, introductory stage-setting page, and first learning module.
2. Objective
• The purpose of this presentation is to guide
participants step-by-step through the learning
module building process
3. Objective
• At the conclusion of the presentation you will
have the framework in place for your learning
module
– Specific tools and elements will be introduced in
module 2
4. Getting Started
• Begin at the home page of
your course
• Click the + icon at the top of
the left side navigation pane
• Select content area
• Give the area a name
– Modules if you plan more
than one
– Unit title if you plan for one
• Do not make the area
available to users
• Click the submit button
5. Setting the Stage
• The module page should begin with an
introductory piece that sets expectations and
provides a guide of how to proceed through
the modules
• Here we will build the page as a document
that remains above the module list
6. Setting the Stage
• From the build
content menu select
blank page
• In the content box add
in information about
what users should
expect, how to move
through the module,
and what to do when
they are finished
7. Setting the Stage
• Make sure users can access the page
immediately
• You may add content now if desired
• Note: This page can be created and content
added at the end once the module takes
shape
8. Module Setup
• Next we will build the learning module landing
page
– Starting point for the learning module
– Will contain all content elements and assessments
– “A self-contained lesson”
9. Module Setup
• From the build
content menu select
learning module
• Give the module a
name and an optional
description
10. Module Setup
• Determine if you want
users to proceed
through the module in
a linear fashion or if
they are allowed to
move freely through
the content
11. Module Setup
• Choose to make the learning module available
or to hide it
– It is hidden from users anyway while the module
content area is made unavailable
12. Module Setup
• Date restrictions can be used to have a
module appear automatically at a given point
in time
13. Module Setup
• Decide if you want
students to access the
table of contents
• Removing it
encourages users to
move sequentially
through the module
14. Module Setup
• Press the submit button to create the learning
module page
15. Moving Forward
• You should now have
the following created:
– Module content area
page
• Setting the stage page
• Learning module 1 area
• Module 2 will take you
through adding content
to your learning module
