2. Route 131 – a core Orléans local route
Quick facts:
Runs every 30 minutes from 4:45 to 00:42
Route takes nearly one hour from end to end
Cuts a circle through the communities north of
Innes Road
Very significant route changes on September 2
Connects to eastern Transitway only at Place
d’Orléans
No service to either Jeanne d’Arc station
The closest approach to western Jeanne d’Arc
station is now 500 m (across Hwy 174)
3. Close-up of old and new 131
Red
Removed
New route runs to Blair
via yellow section
Green
New
Overlaps some other
routes in east, new regular
service in west
Blue
Unchanged
4. Overview of western Orléans service changes
Better connections to
downtown but worse
connections inside Orléans
131 no longer services Jeanne
d’Arc station (east or west)
38 connects to Blair at the price
of isolation from rest of Orléans
32 is still a crazy route with
infrequent service, typical less
than once an hour for only core
hours, so it has very low
ridership
Western Convent Glen North is
still underserved, especially in
off peak hours, most has
express service only
5. Summary of problems
Convent Glen – Orléans Woods folks no longer have one bus route to Innes Rd
Innes Rd is the primary retail centre of Orléans
It is also a major employment area
New routes add more than 30 minutes to travel time (in good weather with good
connections)
Chapel Hill, Orléans Village, Chateauneuf folks no longer have direct access
to eastern Transitway
94 is an option but it is quite slow as it goes through Blackburn Hamlet before
joining Transitway at Blair
Peak hour service runs via either Jeanne d’Arc or Orléans unlike 94
Chapel Hill, Orléans Village, Chateauneuf students must transfer to reach
Cairine Wilson SS or St Matthews HS in Convent Glen
Many students used route 131
Now they head east, transfer at Place d’Orléans, then travel back west
