1. Pipeline Challenge 27/5/09
Task: your task is to safely transport a glass marble from Point A to
Point B through a connected series of pipes in the fastest time
possible. You may only use the materials provided in your mystery
box including the selection of pipes that you’ve brought from home.
For the task, however, you may only use a maximum of 3m of pipe length. The distance
between Point A and Point B is 4.5m. NOTE: there must be one right-hand bend and one
left-hand bend in your pipeline (a bend will be defined as either 90 degrees or 180
degrees)
Here are some more harsh conditions:
• pieces of the pipeline cannot overlap
• group members cannot touch the ball at any point
• the ball must be kept in continuous motion at all times
• if the ball is dropped or the rules broken, your group must start again with the
clock running (3 attempts maximum)
• while the ball is in motion, each group member cannot move their feet
• the ball must stay in the pipeline
• no outside help is available
Surprise: for the team who demonstrates ineffective teamwork, their group will be
penalised by adding another 50cm between Point A and Point B (5m in total!).
