1. We are really excited about this location! It is an eco-friendly
purpose-built retreat center in Kohala
on the Big Island of Hawaii that features a boutique hotel
fashioned after 19th century Hawaiian palaces. There is a
lovely courtyard, view of the ocean, salt-water swimming
pool, hot tub, walking trails, beach access, and on-site spa
treatments. The facility is located on 50 acres and produces
its own electricity (wind-generated) and organic food:
vegetables, goat cheese and free-range grass-fed
2. beef. Meals are prepared in the fabulous kitchen
by professional chefs that use the food grown on the
property to create beautiful, delicious cuisine!*
*Cost includes food and we can cater to food sensitivities
and preferences if advised in advance. Please let us know
early if your dietary needs are specific.

What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness IS a Practice. Although Mindfulness is a
qualitative experience, it is possible to... measure or account
it. Over the three nights and four days of the retreat it is our
14. goal to help you become aware of how to practice
mindfulness in a way that enriches every aspect of your
life. You will learn and practice mindfulness techniques and
exercises to incorporate into your daily routines as well as
ones to help you create new routines.
Really mindfulness and breath have a lot in common. Most
of us are hardly aware of our breathing, taking a deep
conscious breath only when our bodies send a warning
sensation through the nervous system that causes us to
breathe deeply. As a result we spend a great deal of our
lives in what is referred to as “oxidative stress”. In the
same way, mindfulness eludes our lives. We pay close
attention to details for a little while, then incorporate more
and more activity into the action we are
performing: texting, making phone calls, reading
or watching TV while we are on the treadmill... As a result
we spend less time in the moment because we have too
many moments going on. In both cases the result is stress.
Relieving stress can be as easy as taking full conscious
breaths every hour, as easy as focusing your full attention
on the task at hand... neither is particularly common in
today's fast-paced world.
Why Should I Practice Mindfulness?
15. In addition to reducing stress, recent and conclusive
studies show that mindfulness improves productivity at
work whereas multitasking, long a stand-by requirement in
business and modern life, has been shown to decrease
efficiency, quality and overall output of work.
On this retreat our days are going to be full and structured
in a way that combines directed mindfulness practices with
voluntary practices and includes time to share what we
each learn about our ability to concentrate, remain present,
practice contentment and most importantly practice
present moment awareness. We hope you are able to
apply these practices in your everyday life and
responsibilities to improve your overall well-being, allowing
you to focus on the here and now so you can be more
present for yourself, your family, your friends and your
entire life experience...without taking yourself too
seriously!
