2. Product Design For The Human Condition
WE all want progress...
“
”-C.S. Lewis
But progress means getting nearer to the place where
you want to be. And if you have taken a wrong
turning, then to go forward does not get you any
nearer. If you are on the wrong road, progress
means doing an about-turn and walking back to
the right road; and in that case the man who-
turns back soonest is the most progressive
man. We have all seen this when doing arith-
metic. When I have started a sum the wrong
way, the sooner I admit this and go back
and start again, the faster I shall get on.

7. Product Design For The Human Condition
iTunes Music Store + iLife
Between 1999 and 2005 our principal helped
build Apple’s internal Application design group
for .Mac and the iTunes Music Store from one to
over thirty designers.
Beginning at Apple as the lead interface engineer
for iTools and .Mac, Michael went on to establish
culture for Apple’s first centralized Application
design team.
His prototypes, human factors research, visual
guidelines, navigation studies, color studies,
content studies, and design templates added
instrumental value to the Applications we have
grown so fond of.
Michael’s designs would be reviewed weekly by
Steve Jobs and his contribution to ideation and
the product design processes continue to
resonate with Apple’s ongoing success.
8. Yes Radio Widget
Product Design For The Human Condition
Through rapid-fire concept development with one of our flagship partners,
we set out to revive the radio industry with an embedded widget.
We discovered a powerful method for enabling listeners to take sides in a
chat turning this into valuable ratings statistics to help radio stations
increase their programming quality.
Our goal was to bring a legacy broadcast medium back to life with the convergence
of social media and open platform widget technologies, and do it with taste.
-Daniel Goldscheider, CEO of YES
“
”
Our radio community platform combined with the design expertise
of M Concepts yielded an innovation that takes radio listening from a
passive experience to a way for stations to build relationships with
listeners beyond simply airing songs.
9. Product Design For The Human Condition
Virex for the Mac
As a central resource for interface & feature
design for Apple’s own software products,
Michael was also responsible for‘aquifying’
third party applications.
McAfee worked with Michael
to develop their first fully
integrated virus detection
software. Apple would soon
bundle Virex within the .Mac
suite once it had met Apple’s
human interface guidelines.
Michael worked with a stellar icon designer, and interface specialist to
establish Virex as a beautifully integrated Mac OS X product.
Michael’s goal was to eliminate the offensively intrusive experience
which most virus detection software typically suffered from while still
ensuring total protection.
10. iPling for the iPhone
Product Design For The Human Condition
Aligning its launches with future iPhone
releases iPling continues to sustain its
momentum.
After receiving a friendly phone call from
Manuel Monroy (the Director of a boutique
financial advisory firm), Michael was asked to
establish iPling as a viable prototype and
public beta.
As platform architect and product designer
Michael and an SMS/LAMP engineer built
iPling to be the worlds first anonymous
SMS service.
From ideation to a working prototype and
public beta Michael worked to build a
large community of over 2000 highly
discriminating beta testers.
