2. St. Bernard Project
Headquarters
Before going off to our
worksites, we were given a
history of New Orleans by St.
Bernard Project, an
organization that has been
helping the residents of New
Orleans rebuild their
community since Katrina hit.
3. Still work to be done.
Seven years after Katrina hit,
buildings still have yet to be
stripped and rebuilt. These
are the markings rescue
workers drew on buildings to
provide information on the
condition of the home and
owners.
4. Our work group
Our group was tasked with
fixing up a mobile home 100
feet away from a levee.
5. Our work
Me and one of the high
school youth were tasked
with insulating and Tyveking
the entire underside of the
home.
6. French Quarter
Our group was able to take
one day off to visit the French
Quarter and experience first
had the culture that truly
defines New Orleans.
7. Back to insulating
By the end of the week we
completed under the home
and were able to do work
without Tyvek suits in the 100
degree heat.
8. Rebuilding a Church
Community
One of the most rewarding
experiences was helping a
local church move their
possessions back into their
building. They were able to
have worship in their
sanctuary for the first time
since Katrina hit the week we
were there.
9. Leaving our Mark
The ceiling panel we
decorated and left behind at
the volunteer center we
stayed at.
