Description of methodology
Samples were digested with 1:3 concentrated Nitric acid and Hydrochloric acid on hot plate
for 4-5 hrs. They were kept in open condition. The losses of acid by vaporizations were
adjusted by adding the same acid mixture. After cooling they were made up to 250 ml by adding
Distilled water. They were filtered through whatman No. 1 filter paper before AAS analysis.
“Two different units are given as because of very low and high concentration (ppm and %
Respectively)”
Calculation:
Concentration of element present in the given sample (ppm)
= instrument readings x Volume of digestion mixture prepared (ml)
Amount (weight) of the sample taken for the digestion (gm) or (ml)
