The name Halloween (originally spelled Hallowe'en) is
a contraction of All Hallows Even, meaning the day
before All Hallows Day (better known as All Saints
Day), a Catholic holiday commemorating Christian
saints and martyrs observed since the early Middle
Ages on November 1.
It originated in Ireland.

3. HOW IS IT CELEBRATED?
• Kids dress up in costumes and go trick or
treating door to door collecting lots goodies.
• Some have costume parties, pumpkin carving
and “haunted house” tours.
• Some celebrate by staying at home and watching
a scary movie.
