• Short Non Fiction Unit – introduction to Non Fiction begins
with a diagnostic exercise wherein students using a Thinking
Quad are to briefly reflect on “what they know” already about non
fiction as well as “what they think” about the sort of works found in
this genre.
• Post on a projector or on an overhead the information that
can be found in the document entitled “What is Non Fiction” Ask
students in pairs to reflect on the information and record anything
that they would categorize new information or ideas about non
fiction in the “What I discovered” section of the Thinking Quad
• If using a Projector and you are connected to the internet
conduct the Google Search on J. Frey and discuss with the class
how this book reveals some of the issues associated with non
fiction as a genre.
