BY THE 1970s, psychologists had done a series of studies establishing the social power of groups. They showed, for example, that groups of strangers could persuade people to believe statements that were obviously false. Psychologists had also found that research participants were often willing to obey authority figures even when doing so violated their personal beliefs. The Yale studies by Stanley Milgram in 1963 demonstrated that a majority of ordinary citizens would continually shock an innocent man, even up to near-lethal levels, if commanded to do so by someone acting as an authority. The "authority" figure in this case was merely a high-school biology teacher who wore a lab coat and acted in an official manner. The majority of people shocked their victims over and over again despite increasingly desperate pleas to stop.
In my own work, I wanted to explore the fictional notion from William Golding's Lord of the Flies about the power of anonymity to unleash violent behavior. In one experiment from 1969, female students who were made to feel anonymous and given permission for aggression became significantly more hostile than students with their identities intact. Those and a host of other social-psychological studies were showing that human nature was more pliable than previously imagined and more responsive to situational pressures than we cared to acknowledge. In sum, these studies challenged the sacrosanct view that inner determinants of behavior--personality traits, morality, and religious upbringing--directed good people down righteous paths.
Missing from the body of social-science research at the time was the direct confrontation of good versus evil, of good people pitted against the forces inherent in bad situations. It was evident from everyday life that smart people made dumb decisions when they were engaged in mindless groupthink, as in the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion by the smart guys in President John F. Kennedy's cabinet. It was also clear that smart people surrounding President Richard M. Nixon, like Henry A. Kissinger and Robert S. McNamara, escalated the Vietnam War when they knew, and later admitted, it was not winnable. They were .

BY THE 1970s, psychologists had done a series of studies establishing the social power of groups. They showed, for example, that groups of strangers could persuade people to believe statements that were obviously false. Psychologists had also found that research participants were often willing to obey authority figures even when doing so violated their personal beliefs. The Yale studies by Stanley Milgram in 1963 demonstrated that a majority of ordinary citizens would continually shock an innocent man, even up to near-lethal levels, if commanded to do so by someone acting as an authority. The "authority" figure in this case was merely a high-school biology teacher who wore a lab coat and acted in an official manner. The majority of people shocked their victims over and over again despite increasingly desperate pleas to stop.
In my own work, I wanted to explore the fictional notion from William Golding's Lord of the Flies about the power of anonymity to unleash violent behavior. In one experiment from 1969, female students who were made to feel anonymous and given permission for aggression became significantly more hostile than students with their identities intact. Those and a host of other social-psychological studies were showing that human nature was more pliable than previously imagined and more responsive to situational pressures than we cared to acknowledge. In sum, these studies challenged the sacrosanct view that inner determinants of behavior--personality traits, morality, and religious upbringing--directed good people down righteous paths.
Missing from the body of social-science research at the time was the direct confrontation of good versus evil, of good people pitted against the forces inherent in bad situations. It was evident from everyday life that smart people made dumb decisions when they were engaged in mindless groupthink, as in the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion by the smart guys in President John F. Acceptable use policy (AUP) – A policy that communicates to users what specific uses of computer resources are permitted.

Abstract
This module explores di�erent models of CSR (corporate social responsibility) including a shareholder
model (based on the arguments of Milton Friedman), the stakeholder model (based on the work of Evan
and Freeman), and an alliance model advocated by Patricia Werhane. Students will develop a framework
based on an exercise to determine a social contract between society and business. They will use this social
contract to assess each CSR approaches. Then they will develop a CSR program for the hypothetical
corporation, Burger Man. (Based on an exercise developed by Paul Thompson.) This module is being
developed as a part of a project funded by the National Science Foundation, "Collaborative Development
of Ethics Across the Curriculum Resources and Sharing of Best Practices," NSF-SES-0551779. It is
currently being used in the courses "Business, Society and Government" and "Corporate Leadership and
Social Responsibility" being taught at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez

(1) Description
You are required to write an essay on a technology (e.g. hand-held communicators, faster
than light travel, time-travel, etc.) which was introduced as a concept in science fiction,
focusing on its plausibility and appearance in popular media. This technology may or may not
have already been developed. A list of additional suggested topics will be provided in the
Major Essay Discussion Forum.
You must have the following section headings in your essay:
1. Title Page– Descriptive and creative title of the topic (including name, course, etc.)
2. Introduction and History – Describe the technology in terms of what it does and its
potential benefits and/or problems. Include historical references to the first and early
appearance of the technology in science fiction literature/media, as well as from recent
literature/media. Two detailed examples (1 classic, 1 modern) should be given; the
remaining (at least 4 for full marks) need only be mentioned but must be cited correctly.
3. Current Status/Recent Developments – If the technology has been developed then explain
the following: when it was developed, by whom and its current status. If it has not yet
been developed: outline theoretical and/or experimental work currently underway to make
the technology a reality.
4. Technological Limitations and Future Potential – If already developed: what does the
future of the technology hold? If not already developed: describe what technologies must
be developed and/or scientific discoveries made in order to make the technology a reality.
Include predictions on the likelihood of the technology coming to fruition and realistic
potential timelines or if too far in the future, compile a detailed timeline from sci-fi
sources, listing at least 3 specific examples when the technology was developed or was
already available in different sci-fi offerings.

uncumbersome to read and engaging to the reader. Consider your audience (me,
someone with a PhD); the basic physics and ideas are assumed knowledge, hence need

focus on the research you have conducted. Aspects of science fiction should be tied
into the body of the essay, i.e. specific examples for media/literature. An appropriate
level of orthography and grammar characteristic of a university student is expected.

This course provides students study of Black American religions and places of worship as mobilizers of political activism in the fight for equity in American before and after emancipation from slavery. For African Americans, Black religions have historically been institutions through which African Americans have worked to achieve social, economic, and political equality as well as spiritual guidance and social interaction. The focus of this course is that of Black American experiences in religion from Black perspectives, and not from that of non-Blacks. This course covers Black religious denominations that (a) are founded by Black Americans; that (b) are in the control of Black Americans. It is not about religions founded in other places in the world..
This is a totally online ILearn class, having NO required in-class meetings. BY THE 1970s, psychologists had done a series of studies establishing the social power of groups. They showed, for example, that groups of strangers could persuade people to believe statements that were obviously false. Psychologists had also found that research participants were often willing to obey authority figures even when doing so violated their personal beliefs. The Yale studies by Stanley Milgram in 1963 demonstrated that a majority of ordinary citizens would continually shock an innocent man, even up to near-lethal levels, if commanded to do so by someone acting as an authority. The "authority" figure in this case was merely a high-school biology teacher who wore a lab coat and acted in an official manner. The majority of people shocked their victims over and over again despite increasingly desperate pleas to stop.
In my own work, I wanted to explore the fictional notion from William Golding's Lord of the Flies about the power of anonymity to unleash violent behavior. In one experiment from 1969, female students who were made to feel anonymous and given permission for aggression became significantly more hostile than students with their identities intact. Those and a host of other social-psychological studies were showing that human nature was more pliable than previously imagined and more responsive to situational pressures than we cared to acknowledge. In sum, these studies challenged the sacrosanct view that inner determinants of behavior--personality traits, morality, and religious upbringing--directed good people down righteous paths.
Missing from the body of social-science research at the time was the direct confrontation of good versus evil, of good people pitted against the forces inherent in bad situations. It was evident from everyday life that smart people made dumb decisions when they were engaged in mindless groupthink, as in the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion by the smart guys in President John F. Kennedy's cabinet. It was also clear that smart people surrounding President Richard M. Nixon, like Henry A. Kissinger and Robert S. McNamara, escalated the Vietnam War when they knew, and later admitted, it was not winnable. They were .

Abstract
This module explores di�erent models of CSR (corporate social responsibility) including a shareholder
model (based on the arguments of Milton Friedman), the stakeholder model (based on the work of Evan
and Freeman), and an alliance model advocated by Patricia Werhane. Students will develop a framework
based on an exercise to determine a social contract between society and business. They will use this social
contract to assess each CSR approaches. Then they will develop a CSR program for the hypothetical
corporation, Burger Man. (Based on an exercise developed by Paul Thompson.) This module is being
developed as a part of a project funded by the National Science Foundation, "Collaborative Development
of Ethics Across the Curriculum Resources and Sharing of Best Practices," NSF-SES-0551779. It is
currently being used in the courses "Business, Society and Government" and "Corporate Leadership and

You are required to write an essay on a technology (e.g. hand-held communicators, faster
than light travel, time-travel, etc.) which was introduced as a concept in science fiction,
focusing on its plausibility and appearance in popular media. This technology may or may not
have already been developed. A list of additional suggested topics will be provided in the
Major Essay Discussion Forum.
You must have the following section headings in your essay:
1. Title Page– Descriptive and creative title of the topic (including name, course, etc.)
2. Introduction and History – Describe the technology in terms of what it does and its
potential benefits and/or problems. Include historical references to the first and early
appearance of the technology in science fiction literature/media, as well as from recent
literature/media. Two detailed examples (1 classic, 1 modern) should be given; the
remaining (at least 4 for full marks) need only be mentioned but must be cited correctly.
3. Current Status/Recent Developments – If the technology has been developed then explain
the following: when it was developed, by whom and its current status. If it has not yet
been developed: outline theoretical and/or experimental work currently underway to make

Taking this class means you will meet the requirement of two observation visitings to two different Black places of worship: Requirement A and yRequirement B: As we will study the AME and the AME Zion Churches both founded in the 18 century and internationally strong today, , as well as the local San Francisco Third Baptist church, an historical Black activist church, the first visit, Requirement A is to one of those three choices, explained as follows:.
REQUIREMENT A
1) An African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church: a religion founded by Richard Allen in the 1700s . There are many locally, nationally, and internationally for you to chose from. Anything you can share about the history of the church would be good. Goto the website or contact the church to be sure it is an AME Church.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
