Ahsan Manzil was the official residence of the Nawab of Dhaka, located along the Buriganga River. Construction began in 1859 and was completed in 1872 in the Indo-Saracenic style. It now operates as a national museum. The two-story palace measures 125.4m by 28.75m and was rebuilt in 1888 after being damaged by a tornado. It has several galleries containing objects from the Nawab family and information about their contributions to Dhaka's infrastructure. The government renovated the building between 1985-1992 before designating it as a national museum.
2. Ahsan Manzil Ahsan Manzil was the official residential palace and seat of the Nawab of
Dhaka.The building is situated at Kumartoli along the banks of the Buriganga River in
Dhaka, Bangladesh. Construction was started in 1859 and was completed in 1872. It was

Now It has been designated as a national museum.

4. HISTORY
• It was actually built by Nawab sir Abdul Gani in 1872.
• Named it Ahsan Manzil after the name of his beloved son Khwaza Ahsanullah.
• The palace was reconstructed in 1888.
• The Dome was created in the time of reconstruct.
5. CONSTRUCTION
The building structure was established on a raised platform of 1 meter.
The two-storied palace measures 125.4m by 28.75m.
The height of the ground floor is 5 meters.
The building has a broad front-facing the Buriganga River.
Divided into two parts: the eastern side and the western side.
The eastern building with the dome is called the Rangmahal.
The western side with the living rooms is called Andarmahal.

14. RENOVATION
Recognizing the historical and architectural importance of the Ahsan Manzil, the
government of Bangladesh took the initiative to renovate it. In 1985, Ahsan Manzil
and its surroundings were acquired. After the completion of the renovation work in
1992 under the supervision of the Directorate of Public Works and Architecture, it
was brought under the control of Bangladesh National Museum (20 September
1992). A museum has been established there.
