Question 2 Media evaluation By Matthew Hill How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Evaluation Throughout our teams production piece we have represented particular social groups through the making of our film. On the next couple of slides I will be going through with you how our group has developed the conventions of an action film.
Evaluation Here our group has represented a minority group as a protagonist as are main actor is Asian. This challenges the normal conventions of other action films as Asians are not normally seen as the main actor. Also our main character is representing males in the film. This is more common in action films that a male is the protagonist, as if the main character was female our film could be classed as more of a horror film.
Evaluation High angle shot looking down at the patient This shot gives the feel that it is CCTV footage The angle make the character seem vulnerable This suggests that the patient is under surveillance Also the dark lighting of the footage reinforces the fact that scene is CCTV footage Also the pros used in the scene such as wooden table suggests that the patient is being badly treated. Because our group has used CCTV camera footage, it indicates that character could be dangerous. The room which we filmed in is very plain, with white walls etc. This represents a mental home as we perceive a mental home as being really plain
Here we have a tracking shot of the actor escaping the mental home grounds. As you can see in the background of the shot, you can see metal gating. The metal gates indicate that know one is allowed out or in unless authorised. The actor Is still wearing the hospital cloak The grass still indicates that the actor is still on the grounds of the mental home
Also throughout the film our actor was wearing a hospital cloak which is representing his character as an escapee from a mental home. This is a tracking shot, which in the shot you can see the location of the actor This represents mental homes as having a lot of land which is in the middle of no where We assume that this is so that they are isolated away from the general public This is because they are being represented as being a danger to society This shot also reinforces the fact that the actor is all alone
