1. Anxiety Disorders
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder(OCD):: is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and
repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them do something
(compulsive).
-irresistable urge of cleaning, washing, counting, checking, touching objects, and excessive
organization.
Obsessions: are persistent, involuntary thoughts, images, or impulses that invade consciousness and
cause a person great distress.
- worry about contamination by germs or about whether they performed a certain act, such as turning off
the stove or locking the door
Compulsive: persistent, irresistible, irrational urges to perform an act or ritual repeatedly.
- the individual knows such acts are senseless but cannot resist performing them without experiencing
an intolerable build up of anxiety- which can be relieved only by yielding to the compulsion.
Hoarding Disorder: individuals cannot discard unwanted items because doing so makes them feel feel
unbearably anxious.
-buy or collect objects they do not need

2. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Levels of OCD can be anywhere from mild to severe, but if severe and left
untreated, it can destroy a person’s capacity to function at work, at school,
and home.
OCD affects about 2.2 million American adults
Strikes men and women in roughly equal numbers
⅓ of adults with OCD develop symptoms in childhood
Research indicates that OCD might run in the family( genetic factor is involved
in the development of OCD)
Antidepressant drugs that increase serotonin levels in the brain.

3. Depressive and Bipolar
Disorders
Depressive Disorder: disorders characterized by extreme and unwarranted disturbance in emotion or
mood.
-Without treatment, symptoms can last for weeks, months, and years.
Bipolar Disorder: is a mental illness marked by extreme shifts in mood ranging from mania to
depression. It is also called bipolar disease or manic depression.
-there is no cure, but there are many treatments that can help you manage the symptoms.
symptoms : during an emotional high or “”mania””a person can bipolar disorder may feel excited,
impulsive, euphoric, and full of energy.
● Spending sprees, unprotected sex, and drug usage
During and emotional low or depression, a person may experience
● Deep sadness, hopelessness, loss of energy, lack of interest in activities they once enjoyed,
periods of too little or too much sleep, and suicidal thoughts

4. Major Depressive DIsorder
Major depressive disorder: a mood disorder marked by feelings of great
sadness, despair, and hopelessness as well as loss of the ability to experience
pleasure.
Key symptoms for major depressive disorder are psychomotor disturbance
Body movement, reaction time, and speech may be so slow that some
depressed people seem to be everything in slow motion.
Constantly moving and fidgeting, wringing their hands, and pacing.

5. Major Depressive Disorder
One year after initial diagnosed with major depressive disorder
40% of people diagnosed with depression are without symptoms
40% still have the disorder
20% are depressed, but not enough to warrant a diagnosis of major depression
