Activity Thirteen: In Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles
Jesus’ Brothers Advise Him to Go to Judea (John 7:2-9)
1. What was the attitude of the physical brethren of Jesus toward Him at this
time? Why did they encourage Him to go to the feast? What was Jesus’
response to them?
ANSWER: His brothers therefore said to Him, Depart from here and go into
Judea, that your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. For no
one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If
You do these things, show Yourself to the world.” For even His brothers
did not believe in Him.
2. What reason did Jesus give for the fact that the world “hates” Him?
ANSWER: Jesus is very clear. Following him means also sharing his lot,
being rejected and even hated by ‘the world’ because our values are
different. This does not make the suffering of feeling different and not
accepted any easier. But it helps us make sense of it, doing our best to remain
loyal to our calling to be followers of Jesus.
The Private Journey to Jerusalem (Luke 9:51-56; John 7:10)
3. When some Samaritans rejected Jesus, what did James and John suggest
that Jesus do to them? What was Jesus’ reply?
As to Sacrifice for Christ’s Service (Luke 9:57-62)
4. What was the response of Jesus to the one who said he would follow Him
wherever He went?
5. How did Jesus respond to the one who would follow Him but first wanted
to bury his dead father? What did Jesus’ answer mean?
6. Why is one who has “put his hand to the plow” and then looks back not “fit
for the kingdom of God?”
In the Temple at the Feast of Tabernacles (John 7:11-52)
7. Why did the people at the feast not speak openly of Jesus? What different
views did they have of Him?
8. What answer did Jesus give those Jews who marvelled at His teaching
seeing that He knew “letters, having never studied?”

11. Why did the Jews seek to “take” Jesus? Why were they unable to do it?
ANSWER: He that speaks from himself seeks his own glory: but he that seeks the glory of him that
sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
12. What question was asked by the people who believed on Jesus?
ANSWER: Afterward, according to the Gospel of Saint Mark, as he walked north toward Caesarea
Philippi, Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do men say that I am?" This is one of the most resonant
questions in the whole of the New Testament.
13. When the Pharisees sent officers to take Jesus, what did He tell them? What questions did the Jews
ask among themselves as a result of Jesus’ statement?
ANSWER: The Pharisees said to them, “Have you also been fooled? Not one of the chief priests or
the Pharisees has faith in him. And these people who don’t know the Law are under God’s
curse anyway.”
14. When the officers were questioned as to why that had not brought Jesus to the chief priests and
Pharisees, what was their response?
ANSWER: This rebuke to the officers may be paraphrased thus: You are to respect the authority of the officers
and the judgment of the Pharisees, but you have permitted yourselves to be influenced by a multitude that
rests under a curse because of its ignorance.
15. Who was Nicodemus? What did he ask of the Pharisees? What was their reply?
ANSWER: Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin mentioned in three places in
the Gospel of John: He first visits Jesus one night to discuss Jesus' teachings. They answered and said
unto him, Are you also of Galilee? Search, and see that out of Galilee no prophet arises.
The Story of the Adulteress (John 8:1-11)
16. Briefly summarize this event. Why did Jesus not condemn her? Was He condoning sin? Explain.
ANSWER:
Messianic Claims Met by an Attempt to Stone Jesus (John 8:12-59)
17. After telling the Pharisees that He was the light of the world, what did Jesus say in reference to
those who follow Him?
18. Briefly summarize Jesus’ explanation that the testimony that He gave of Himself was true. How
could it be the testimony of “two men?”
19. What did Jesus say was needed if one were not going to die in his sins? Why?
20. When did Jesus say that the Jews would “know” who He was?
21. Who, at first, did the Jews claim as their father? Who did Jesus say their father was? Why?

Activity Fourteen: Further Activities in Jerusalem and Judea
Contention Over the Man Born Blind (John 9:1-41)
1. What question did the disciples of Jesus ask Him when they saw the man
who had been born blind? What was His reply?
2. What did Jesus do and say to the blind man when He healed him?
3. When they saw him, what question did the people ask the blind man who
had been healed?
4. What were the reactions of the Pharisees when they learned of this miracle?
ANSWER: They bring to the Pharisees him that previously was blind. They
wanted to see how the Pharisees would deal with Jesus' miracles. Now it
was the Sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
Such conduct on the Sabbath raised legal questions of which the Pharisees
were also the recognized judges.
5. After refusing to believe the testimony of the healed blind man, whom did
the Pharisees next question? What was their response? Why did they
respond in that way?
ANSWER: They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind.
Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s
eyes was a Sabbath. Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had
received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I
washed, and now I see.”
6. When questioned by the Jews a second time as to how Jesus had healed
him, what was the healed blind man’s response?
ANSWER: Jesus continues his journey after raising the daughter of
Jairus, two blind men follow him, calling out, "Have mercy on us, Son
of David!" When he had gone indoors, the blind men come to him,
and he asks, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They reply,
"Yes, Lord"
7. What argument did the healed blind man used to show Jesus was of God?
How did the Jews respond to it?
ANSWER: The miracle of healing the man born blind is one of miracles of
Jesus in the Gospels, in which Jesus is believed to have restored the sight
of a man at Siloam. Although not named in the gospel, church tradition
has ascribed the name Celidonius to the man who was healed. The
account is recorded in the ninth chapter of John's gospel.

8. When Jesus heard what the Jews had done with the healed blind man,
what question did He ask him? What was the man’s response?
ANSWER: Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he
said, 'Do you believe in the Son of Man?
9. Hearing Jesus’ statement to the healed blind man, what did the Pharisees
ask Jesus? What was His reply to them?
ANSWER: Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he
does not keep the Sabbath." But others asked, "How can a sinner do
such miraculous signs?" So they were divided. Finally they turned
again to the blind man, "What have you to say about him? It was your
eyes he opened." The man replied, "He is a prophet."
The Discourse on the Good Shepherd (John 10:1-21)
10. What is said in reference to sheep and the voice of their shepherds? As to
the voice of strangers?
ANSWER: Sheep in Jesus' era were acutely attuned to the voice of their
own shepherd. This allowed multiple flocks to be housed in a single
sheep pen overnight. The individual shepherds could retrieve their
flocks simply by calling. Only those sheep who knew that particular
voice would come—the others would not respond to a voice they did
not recognize.

  • 1. A Chronological Study of the Life of Jesus by Gene Taylor Fourfold Gospel or Harmony of the Gospel by J.W. McGarvey and P.Y. Pendleton The Bible- Old and New Testament CHRISTIAN MORAL VALUES 1 LIFE OF JESUS References: Name: JERIMIE DE ROXAS Date: NOV.22,2021 Section: C Ms. Eugenia Abe Evora Activity Thirteen: In Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles Jesus’ Brothers Advise Him to Go to Judea (John 7:2-9) 1. What was the attitude of the physical brethren of Jesus toward Him at this time? Why did they encourage Him to go to the feast? What was Jesus’ response to them? ANSWER: His brothers therefore said to Him, Depart from here and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.” For even His brothers did not believe in Him. 2. What reason did Jesus give for the fact that the world “hates” Him? ANSWER: Jesus is very clear. Following him means also sharing his lot, being rejected and even hated by ‘the world’ because our values are different. This does not make the suffering of feeling different and not accepted any easier. But it helps us make sense of it, doing our best to remain loyal to our calling to be followers of Jesus. The Private Journey to Jerusalem (Luke 9:51-56; John 7:10) 3. When some Samaritans rejected Jesus, what did James and John suggest that Jesus do to them? What was Jesus’ reply? As to Sacrifice for Christ’s Service (Luke 9:57-62) 4. What was the response of Jesus to the one who said he would follow Him wherever He went? 5. How did Jesus respond to the one who would follow Him but first wanted to bury his dead father? What did Jesus’ answer mean? 6. Why is one who has “put his hand to the plow” and then looks back not “fit for the kingdom of God?” In the Temple at the Feast of Tabernacles (John 7:11-52) 7. Why did the people at the feast not speak openly of Jesus? What different views did they have of Him? 8. What answer did Jesus give those Jews who marvelled at His teaching seeing that He knew “letters, having never studied?” Lesson  Texts Fourfold Gospel pp. 439-461 Matthew Mark Luke 9:51-62 John 7:2 - 8:59

  • 3. A Chronological Study of the Life of Jesus by Gene Taylor Fourfold Gospel or Harmony of the Gospel by J.W. McGarvey and P.Y. Pendleton The Bible- Old and New Testament CHRISTIAN MORAL VALUES 1 LIFE OF JESUS References: 11. Why did the Jews seek to “take” Jesus? Why were they unable to do it? ANSWER: He that speaks from himself seeks his own glory: but he that seeks the glory of him that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. 12. What question was asked by the people who believed on Jesus? ANSWER: Afterward, according to the Gospel of Saint Mark, as he walked north toward Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do men say that I am?" This is one of the most resonant questions in the whole of the New Testament. 13. When the Pharisees sent officers to take Jesus, what did He tell them? What questions did the Jews ask among themselves as a result of Jesus’ statement? ANSWER: The Pharisees said to them, “Have you also been fooled? Not one of the chief priests or the Pharisees has faith in him. And these people who don’t know the Law are under God’s curse anyway.” 14. When the officers were questioned as to why that had not brought Jesus to the chief priests and Pharisees, what was their response? ANSWER: This rebuke to the officers may be paraphrased thus: You are to respect the authority of the officers and the judgment of the Pharisees, but you have permitted yourselves to be influenced by a multitude that rests under a curse because of its ignorance. 15. Who was Nicodemus? What did he ask of the Pharisees? What was their reply? ANSWER: Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin mentioned in three places in the Gospel of John: He first visits Jesus one night to discuss Jesus' teachings. They answered and said unto him, Are you also of Galilee? Search, and see that out of Galilee no prophet arises. The Story of the Adulteress (John 8:1-11) 16. Briefly summarize this event. Why did Jesus not condemn her? Was He condoning sin? Explain. ANSWER: Messianic Claims Met by an Attempt to Stone Jesus (John 8:12-59) 17. After telling the Pharisees that He was the light of the world, what did Jesus say in reference to those who follow Him? 18. Briefly summarize Jesus’ explanation that the testimony that He gave of Himself was true. How could it be the testimony of “two men?” 19. What did Jesus say was needed if one were not going to die in his sins? Why? 20. When did Jesus say that the Jews would “know” who He was? 21. Who, at first, did the Jews claim as their father? Who did Jesus say their father was? Why?
  • 4. A Chronological Study of the Life of Jesus by Gene Taylor Fourfold Gospel or Harmony of the Gospel by J.W. McGarvey and P.Y. Pendleton The Bible- Old and New Testament CHRISTIAN MORAL VALUES 1 LIFE OF JESUS References: 22. Why did the Jews say that Jesus had a demon? What did they ask in reference to Abraham? 23. What, according to Jesus, is His relationship to Abraham? What is meant by the phrase “I AM?” 24. Upon hearing the above teaching, what did the Jews do? What did Jesus do in response?

Pendleton The Bible- Old and New Testament CHRISTIAN MORAL VALUES 1 LIFE OF JESUS References: Activity Fourteen: Further Activities in Jerusalem and Judea Contention Over the Man Born Blind (John 9:1-41) 1. What question did the disciples of Jesus ask Him when they saw the man who had been born blind? What was His reply? 2. What did Jesus do and say to the blind man when He healed him? 3. When they saw him, what question did the people ask the blind man who had been healed? 4. What were the reactions of the Pharisees when they learned of this miracle? ANSWER: They bring to the Pharisees him that previously was blind. They wanted to see how the Pharisees would deal with Jesus' miracles. Now it was the Sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. Such conduct on the Sabbath raised legal questions of which the Pharisees were also the recognized judges. 5. After refusing to believe the testimony of the healed blind man, whom did the Pharisees next question? What was their response? Why did they respond in that way? ANSWER: They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath. Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.” 6. When questioned by the Jews a second time as to how Jesus had healed him, what was the healed blind man’s response? ANSWER: Jesus continues his journey after raising the daughter of Jairus, two blind men follow him, calling out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" When he had gone indoors, the blind men come to him, and he asks, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They reply, "Yes, Lord" 7. What argument did the healed blind man used to show Jesus was of God? How did the Jews respond to it? ANSWER: The miracle of healing the man born blind is one of miracles of Jesus in the Gospels, in which Jesus is believed to have restored the sight of a man at Siloam. Although not named in the gospel, church tradition has ascribed the name Celidonius to the man who was healed. The account is recorded in the ninth chapter of John's gospel. Lesson  Texts Fourfold Gospel pp. 461-474 Matthew Mark Luke 10:1-24 John 9:1 - 10:21
  • 6. A Chronological Study of the Life of Jesus by Gene Taylor Fourfold Gospel or Harmony of the Gospel by J.W. McGarvey and P.Y. Pendleton The Bible- Old and New Testament CHRISTIAN MORAL VALUES 1 LIFE OF JESUS References: 8. When Jesus heard what the Jews had done with the healed blind man, what question did He ask him? What was the man’s response? ANSWER: Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, 'Do you believe in the Son of Man? 9. Hearing Jesus’ statement to the healed blind man, what did the Pharisees ask Jesus? What was His reply to them? ANSWER: Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." But others asked, "How can a sinner do such miraculous signs?" So they were divided. Finally they turned again to the blind man, "What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened." The man replied, "He is a prophet." The Discourse on the Good Shepherd (John 10:1-21) 10. What is said in reference to sheep and the voice of their shepherds? As to the voice of strangers? ANSWER: Sheep in Jesus' era were acutely attuned to the voice of their own shepherd. This allowed multiple flocks to be housed in a single sheep pen overnight. The individual shepherds could retrieve their flocks simply by calling. Only those sheep who knew that particular voice would come—the others would not respond to a voice they did not recognize.
