HISTORY AND SITUATION

  Is a city in central southern England. It is
 the county town of Oxfordshire, and forms
 a district within the county. It has a
 population of just under 165,000, of whom
 153,900 live within the district boundary.
 Oxford has a diverse economic base. Its
 industries include motor manufacturing,
 education, publishing and a large number
 of information technology and science-
 based businesses.

BRIDGE OF SIGHS The Bridge of Sighs has
become synonymous with the historic city of
Oxford and stands in the very centre. was
built in the early 1900s.

CARFAX TOWER Tower was built almost 800 years ago is
surprisingly good condition, considering its age. At
approximately 23 metres, the tower provides spectacular
panoramic views of the city centre.


NEW BODLEIAN LIBRARY Is one of the city's more
modern landmarks and was built in 1937. There are more
than five million books and around 160 km of shelving

located in Cowley, it was opened in 1965. It

most famous and prestigious higher
