How estrogen and estrogen deficiencies effect the vagina
during perimenopause and menopause.

4. What Happens To The Vagina When We Age
We age because our hormones decline. This sends a signal to the brain
telling it you’re no longer in a state of reproduction and your production
factory is closed for business. This gets triggered by estrogen levels.

6. When Estrogen Gets Too Low
When estrogen gets too low, a woman will develop problems with vaginal
dryness, painful intercourse, or dyspareunia. Other symptoms of low
estrogen include endometriosis and interstitial cystitis. She can also
develop vulvodynia, which is a painful vagina with or without stimulation.

7. The Collapse of the Vaginal Wall
The absence of estrogen results in decreased collagen
and vaginal muscle wall strength due to tissue atrophy.

8. Prolapsed Uterus
When the vaginal walls fail to support other
organs, these other organs prolapse as well.

9. Pelvic Organ Prolapse
The entire pelvic floor takes a crash without adequate
levels of estrogen.
