1. Hello in this presentation I am going to speak you about Volvo Ocean
Race. I hope you like it.
The Volvo Ocean Race is a yacht race around the world. It is the longest
and toughest event and one of the most coveted prizes in the professional
sport.
It started the 8th
of September in 1973 in England, and finished there too
152 later. In this edition three sailors died, and the winner was Ramon
Carlin with his yacht Sayulla II. Here you can see an image of Ramon
Carlin and another one of his yacht.
The most important organizers of this race are:
-John Bramley: Communication director
-Jack Lloyd: Race Director.
This event has a lot of social impact. Here there is a table with some data
of the last edition.
To give you the essential background information on this table I have
emphasized the following three aspects:
- 1.55 billion cumulative TV audience from 9000 broadcast
approximately.
- 8 million of views during the race on the official YouTube TV channel.
- 2.9 million of visitors from Alicante to Galway.
Here you have an image with the route of the next edition. As you can see
it will start in Alicante, Spain and will be finished in Gothenburg,
Sweden.
Now I’m going to give you information about the trophy. The previous
Volvo Ocean Race trophy was awarded to Franck Cammas, the skipper
of Groupama sailing team. Each of the 11 wave-shaped rings represents a
winner of this historic race. A twelfth ring will be added at the end of the
next edition with the name of the winning boat and its skipper. In these
photos you can see the trophy in front of and behind, and another image
of Franck Cammas with the trophy.
This was the classification of the last edition, Groupama sailing team was
the winner, and Team Telefonica the fourth.
Team Telefonica is a Spanish team which has participated in this
competition. The skipper of the team is Iker Martinez. This team has
become in a milestone of the Spanish sailing, having won the first leg of
the Volvo Ocean Race, being the first Spanish yacht which has led it.
I would like to finish by showing you a video with some extreme moments
of this competition.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION!
