2. Sri Jagannath temple at Puri is one of the Char Dhams (the
sacred four pilgrim places for Hindus) where Lord
Jagannath along with Goddess Subhadra and Lord
Balabhadra are worshiped.

8. The ritual system of Lord Jagannath
The rituals of Lord Jagannath is a very complex
function with one thousand categories.
9. The rituals of Lord Jagannath is broadly divided into 3 parts

11. The doors of Lord Jagannath temple
open early in the morning and
remain open till midnight.
12. During the day in afternoon hour, the doors get closed for 1-
2hr.
13. In normal days, there is no queue for Lord Jagannath
Darshan or Visit. But on special occasions, there is a proper
arrangement held to control the rush of visitors.
14. Usually there is no fees for Darshana in normal days, but at
times of occasion the fee varies to see the Lord from a close-
distance.
15. There are 2 small temples and a main
temple is in the center. On the main
entrance there are 22steps known as “baeisi
pahacha” to reach Lord Jagannath.
16. Bada Danda
Bada Danda is famous for the grand procession of Lord
Jagnnath's Car Festival that takes place annually
17. The four gates of the temple :-
Main gate – East gate or Singha
Dwara ( Lion Gate )
This is the main gate of temple which is located at the end
of Bada Danda and commonly known as Lion gate or
Singha Dwara.
18. You also can see the beautiful architecture engraved in
the sun pillar or called Aruna Stambha near the main
gate of temple.

visiting the statue of Lord
Patitapabana.

:- South gate or Dakhina Dwara or horse gate

21. Maha Prasad or Food offering to Lord Jagannath
The offerings or prasad of Lord Jagannath is available at
all times in Ananda Bazar.
22. The Prasad or offerings are prepared in traditional ways in
the earthen pots.
23. Sevayats :-
The people who perform the day-today rituals in the temple
are called the Sevayats and they are get selected from
hereditary basis.
24. The first sevayat of Lord Jagannath is Gajapati, the king of
Puri who performs certain duties and rituals on special
occasions only.
25. The winter time from Oct - Feb are the most pleasant
time to visit Puri.
