4. IMPORTANCE OF SSI IN THE ECOONOMY
The SSI s have emerged as a dynamic sector in the economy accounting
to 55% of the total value of industrials Production.
Large part of exports have emerged form the products produced by SSI
The SSI s have played a Vital in development and growth of Indian

It is a general finding that small firms have an winning edge in
industries where there is a great need for personalized service and
attention to detail farther thy have a flexibility to adapt quickly to
change in business and technological environment.
The reason behind this rapid development of small units is promotion
of capital formation and development of Entrepreneurial talent, skills
and abilities among the people.
5. The small industries are further helping fulfill substation demand of the
consumer goods.
The integration of small and big units thought the rapid trend of
ancillarisation has further brought a reasonable cut in charges of tax
rate and duties under the customs excise and sales tax acts.
The SSI s also serve by providing substitutes for various goods that
were previously being imported from other foreign countries
Another observation that development of SSI s leading to higher
production and export capacities

DEPARTMENTS
• PRODUCTION PROCESS
This type of processing is known as batch type of processing.
Firstly, the M.S Sheets are cut into the required sizes using the machines.
These sheets are cut into 16” width and 10” height for the side doors and 6”
and 16 “ for front and back doors. Further these sheets are forwarded to
undergo necessary processes. They are as follows:
1 PRESS BREAK PROCESS: The sheets, which are cut, accordingly are
forwarded to the press break machine where the sheets are pressed and made
according to the required design. The plane sheets are formed into designed
sheets. If the customer has ordered for plane trailer then the sheets will not
undergo the press break process. It depends upon the customer they can opt
for anyone plane or design. Nearly 5 to 6 workers are required to operate the
press break machine. The present value of this machine is? Lakhs. Further the
designed sheets are forwarded to the next process.
2 WELDING PROCESS: The pressed sheets are further proceeded to the
welding process and these welded sheets are polished carefully to remove the
roughness and then these polished sheets are painted with the primer so as to
prevent it from rusting. All the doors are produced under this process and
stored for assembling the trailers. With the help of Iron rod the required
handles, rings, toolbox are manufactured in the factory itself. The handles are
prepared in the required size and type i.e 20mm round is used for locking and
opening the trailer doors. Then the tool box is prepared with the help of M.S
sheets so as to provide a space for keeping the tool instruments.
3 DRILLING PROCESS: The drilling machine is used to drill the required size
of holes on the sheets. Usually, this machine is used to drill the iron plates and
sheets, which are used to make the body of the trailer. The drilled plates and
sheets are fitted with help of nuts and bolts. Minimum of 3 workers are
required to operate drilling machine.
4 VICTORY UDDAGI MACHINE: A 6mm plate is moulded round, so as to
produce an uddagi round. Uddagi square of 5” channel can also be
manufactured with the help of this machine. The uddagi ring that is needed to
14. attach to the trailer is of 30mm round or 68”,66 and 72” depending upon the
size of the trailer.
5 CHASSIS MANUFACTURING: The chassis are manufactured according to
the standard template of BHARAT METAL INDUSTRIES. The chassis are of 6”
channel, 10” length and 44” width the wheels.
6 HYDRAULIC RAM: Hydraulic ram helps in lifting the body of the trailer hing
and making the body slope and work easy. This is fitted to the base
perpendicular to the chasse.
Lastly, the hubs are fixed to the axles. The is situated between the two hubs.
The hub has 8 holes with a grace nipple. The ring type of disk is inserted into the
tyre and locked to the hub and with the hub bolts it is fitted tightly to the axle
to rotate in between the disk and hub. BHARAT METAL INDUSTRIES uses the
check nut with pin so as to act as a locking system between these two. The
check nut may also be without pin which all the other manufacturers use, but
the using of check nut with pin is undertaken only by BHARAT METAL
INDUSTRIES.
• ASSEMBLING PROCESS:
After, producing all the required materials individually, these
materials are further proceeded towards the final process i.e assembling of
these parts to manufacture the final output in form of Tractor-Trailer. Process
of assembling the parts or manufacturing the Tractor-Trailer undergoes various
steps which are studied one by one. Firstly, the chasse which is manufactured
according to the standard template of the company is assembled. Next the M.s
sheet i.e 11/2 sheet is being placed on the chasse so as to form the base sheet.
After the sheet is placed, the doors i.e 2 wheelers 4 doors and 4 wheelers 6
doors are fixed with the help of hinges and angles, Hinges and Angles act as a
middle lock between the chasse and the doors. Later the uddagi is fixed to the
front portion with the help of welding machine.
Uddagi is made from 6mm moulded plates or square 5” channels. Uddagi
ring of 30mm which is used for fixing the tyres to the Trailers is the main part
which is being placed to the main chasse. A single hub is installed to the 2
wheelers and double hub is installed to the 4 wheelers. The special feature of
15. BHARAT METAL INDUSTRIES is that they use check nut for placing the tyre to
the hub, which acts as a locking system in the hub and also locks the tyre rim
with the hub. Other manufacturing industries usually do not use this check nut.
After the hub is attached to the main chasse the next step is installation of
hydraulic ram to the chasse for convenient unloading of the material. As the
time is very precious now days, it saves the time and also the man power and
work as the body of the Trailer
is lifted high so that it is in the slope direction, which allows the material to flow
easily to the ground. Once the hydraulic ram is installed then the shackle bolts
of size 41/2 inch and shackle pin of 51/2 inch has to be fixed so as to support
the body and hub of the Trailer. Later the axel shaft of 80mm, 68 inch, 66 inch
or 72 inch is being welded to the main chasse of the hub. For the smooth
rotating of the tyres BHARAT METAL INDUSTRIES make use of HMT or SKF or
TMKN- 3984 or TMKN-462 so that it does not face any problems in the future.
Use of CEAT tyres of size 825-20 and 900-20 or 900-16 to make the trailer more
suspension.
The main chassis will be of size 6” channel, 10” length and 44” width. This
forms the main part of the body. After that 1” pipe of the size 12mm round is
used for the front portion show, which is in the dome shape. The size of the
door produced and assembled will be around 16” height and 10” length for the
side doors and around 6” in height and length for the front and back doors.
Later the hub bolts are used to lock the disk to the hub, which are of size
1/8*21/2 inch. The disk is of ring type and is fixed with the tyre to the hub and
this hub provides a hub cap with rubber beading.
After fully assembling the body of the Trailer and over all completion of the
total work, the Trailer is polished carefully with the premier to remove its
roughness and make it radiant. Then the final process takes place i.e coloring of
the required and ordered color for the Trailers. Nearly 4 to 41/2 liters of paint is
required for spraying the paint the the Trailer. Then the next work is greasing
the necessary parts of the Trailer with the grease.
Finally after completion of all the process and work the manufactured
Trailer is being brought to the storeroom or it is finally delivered to the
respective customer. Further if the customer asks for any additional part of the
body then it is made available with the additional payment.
