Studied and researched the North Carolina Rules of Appellate Procedure to understand their
application and to discover any ambiguous provisions or discrepancies. Presented these Rules to
the Justice and her law clerks with explanations and examples.
Reviewed and checked for accuracy of legal citations.
Wrote bench briefs for the Justice, which includes highlighting relevant facts, summarizing the
involved parties’ arguments and their supporting cases, determining whether those cases
supported the arguments made, and distinguishing any of the cases cited in the parties’ briefs or
other cases found from my own research of the issue.
Researched current events concerning judicial tribunals in other states to help prepare the Justice
for articles and interviews for legal journals.
