2. Musical Instrument of Spain The Bandurria
The bandurria is a plucked chordophone(type of musical instrument that makes sounds
by vibrating strings) from Spain, similar to the mandolin, primarily used in Spanish folk
music. The bandurria is used mainly in Aragon, Murcia, Extremadura, in parts of
Andalucia, Navarra, Valencia, Balearic Islands and also in the Canary Islands. During the
colonization of America it spreaded to Caribe, Peru and Chile. The original bandurrias of
the Medieval period had only three strings. But nowadays, the modern bandurria has 12
strings.
3. MONTSERRAT CABALLÉ
Montserrat Caballé was a Spanish operatic soprano(type of classical female voice with
the highest vocal range). Her voice was described pure and powerful, with
exquisite control of vocal shadings. Caballé became popular to non-
classical music audiences in 1987, when she recorded a duet
with Freddy Mercury, which became an official theme song
for the 1992 Olympic Games of Barcelona. She also
received several international awards and Grammy Awards.
