1. The macaroni is a type of
pasta made with water, wheat
flour and, sometimes, egg,
which usually has the shape
of an elongated tub.
According to the legend, the
macaroni were brought to
Italy by Marco Polo, when he
returned in 1292 to Venice
from his trip to China
2. This hypothesis has been
refuted, since it seems that
the macaroni was already
used in Italy, at least, a
century before, like pasta
in general; the Moroccan
geographer Muhammad al-
Idrisi, who lived in Sicily,
has documented the
macaroni in Sicily and in
particular in Trabia.
