The moon
1. The Moon. This powerpoint is about the moon. It has been tailored for beginners. No prior Moon experience required.
2. The Earth has a Moon Did you know that earth has a moon? Many people fail to realise this as it is common practice to sleep at night (the moon is a nocturnal creature). It is a big ball made of rock. If you are having trouble visualising it - it looks a bit like a golf ball that has been made to resemble the moon.
3. What does ‘Moon’? The moon orbits the earth. Many believe that the moon is actually a part of the earth that was ejected following a huge impact with an asteroid. The moon rotates on it’s axis once every 27.3 days – as this is roughly the same as it’s orbit only one side of the moon has ever been visible from earth. The other side is thought to be a conceptual wasteland of musique concrete.
4. Common Myths about the moon. A dragon that makes soup lives just under the surface. It commands an army of mice. It is made of cheese. It controls the tides (this is obviously ridiculous. The Shadow Government controls the tides). David Bowie has a holiday home there.
5. Moon Milestones The first man made object to reach the moon was the Soviet made Luna 2 unmanned craft on 13 september 1959. The first man to step on the moon was Neil Armstrong on 20 July 1969 on the Apollo 11 mission. He forgot to wipe his feet. This angered the lunar gods who then allowed Nixon to become president. Duncan Jones (Bowie’s son) filmed his first film ‘Moon’ (2009) entirely on location.
6. Fun Moon facts. Dr Eugene Shoemaker, a consultant that educated astronauts about craters, had his ashes posthumously launched into the moon during a 1999 mission to discover if there was water on the moon. His lost soul is now said to haunt the very craters that he held so dear. This is the first documented case of moon-ghosting.
7. The Moon You are now well on your way to being a fully qualified moonologist. Use your powers wisely. There are organisations that would do anything to gain the knowledge you now yield. End of presentation.
